Most people talk about the violence in this movie and this film does live up to its title. Although I enjoyed the action in The Savage Seven it became the "signature" movie of my teen years for other reasons.

When this movie was released I was a teenager riding a 500 cc Triumph Daytona. After seeing this film some friends and I took a trip to a small town and stayed for a few days. We did not have the same wild adventures as in The Savage Seven but it was my first non-supervised vacation. This movie will always remind me of that coming-of-age trip and the young lady that I met there.

The music in this film stayed in my memory, particularly "The Unconscious Power" and "Maria's Theme". I rode many a mile with these two songs playing in my head.

Most biker movies have their own sense of "romance" but in this movie there is a credibility that I found refreshing. The romantic leads, played by Adam Roarke and Joanna Frank, gave solid performances as two people trying to overcome the differences in their lifestyles and cultures.

Although this movie focused on the violence associated with bikers you were given a rare look at their human side as well. They may be aggressive or reserved with outsiders but they are open and honest with each other. In moments of innocence they play like children. When betrayed they respond with vengeance!

Adam Roarke was impressive as the club leader. His sidekicks, played by John Garwood and Richard Anders, gave depth and balance to the biker personalities.. All 3 actors demonstrate the qualities that you expect to see in a motorcycle movie. They are loyal, tough and love to fight. This trio also appeared together in "Hell's Angels on Wheels".

Unfortunately you will not see the prolonged riding sequences that you will see in movies like "Hells' Angels on Wheels". All of the riding in The Savage Seven occurs in and around the same small town.

As a closing remark I would like to say that those who prefer traditional values may wish to avoid this movie. If you can relate to the "rebel" mentality and love biker movies I highly recommend this one!

I have a soft sport for this film for several reasons. Richard Rush was working with famed cinematographer Laslo Kovaks at this time and developed a technique called "rack-focus" - instead of cutting between two characters, the focus would be shifted within the shot. Working in the confines of American International Pictures genre films, Rush managed to be an original stylist. The theme song is an obscure song by Cream, "Anyone for Tennis?".

This has got to be one of my favorite b rated biker movies. I can't say enough about the excellent performances by Adam Roarke (My favorite), Joanna Frank (wow what a babe) and Robert Walker Jr.

The chemistry between these actors electrifies the cult and era inwhich they represent in this movie
