Editorial Reviews

About the Artist

German power metal - there are many bands that fit into this category, but most of them follow the paths of the local big names of the scene: Helloween, Gamma Ray, Running Wild, and maybe Grave Digger or the legendary Accept. MYSTIC PROPHECY though have been a band with a little difference" right from the start. The three albums by the band so far - Vengeance (2002), Regressus (2003) and Never-Ending (2004), also included some German metal influences but ar way more orientated towards an international sound. US power metal bands like Iced Earth can be named as a comparison. This was a wise decision by the band who have in the meantime established an almost unique sound and category which is consequently followed on Savage Souls". Savage Souls" turned out a little more depressive, as they had quite a lot of stress and problems with the many line-up changes. But the hard work paid off: the band never sounded that heavy and aggressive. Accordingly the lyrics don't follow a concept as the preivous albums but refer to environment, polictics and religion - and surely a lot of personal stuff, which needs to be refelcted when things don't turn our that well.

MYSTIC PROPHECY are one of the leading German , if not European, bands in their genre and will break through now with their fourth album. Savage Souls" is a definite highlight!

Product Description

For the new album Savage Souls, Mystic Prophecy never hesitated for a second to chose a new double-axe department. The 2 new guitarists are Markus Pohl (known from Symphorce) and Martin Grimm (Headstone Epitaph). In addition drummer Dennis Ekdahl was more and more busy with his other band Raise Hell and also left. New drummer is Matthias Straub from Sacred Steel after Klaus Sperling from My Darkest Hate was a member of the band for a while. The album was recorded and mastered at 2Music Factory Studio by Lia while the excellent mix was done by Fredrik Nordström, whose Fredman-Studio is one of the top studios in Europe for years now. But the hard work paid off: The band never sounded that heavy and aggressive. 11 tracks. Massacre. 2006.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album!, April 4, 2006
This review is from: Savage Souls (Audio CD)
So, you're wondering whether you want to risk buying a cd from a band that you haven't heard anything from, huh? I totally feel your pain.

I took a risk and bought Mystic Prophecy's Never-Ending cd and thought "This is not a bad cd". There's definitely a few cool songs on that cd.

When I heard that MP had a new cd coming out, I went to their website and listened to a mere sample off of Savage Souls and decided that I HAD to have this cd ASAP.

This cd is absolutely amazing. I don't really want to attempt to describe the sound, but I'm more than happy to list some other cds I own that I rank as high and you can decide if you want to take the risk (although it's a no-brainer to me).

5 Star CDs that rank as High:

Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera

Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor

Kamelot - The Black Halo

Iced Earth - The Dark Saga

Elvenking - The Winter Wake

5.0 out of 5 stars Finnest Power Metal!!!, April 23, 2006
This review is from: Savage Souls (Audio CD)
This band have a great and very important thing that makes a difference between him and the others bands. This difference is R.D. Liapakis, the vocal and producer. If you are a fan of Power Metal you've already listen a band called Valley's Eve, don't you? Yes, fantastic vocal and production...why? Because is the same guy, Mr. Liapakis. This play is the fourth for the band and for me the best them all. Check it out, like the others three MP plays and Valley's Eve plays too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystic Prophecy's finest hour, August 3, 2008
By
alpha128 (Cleveland, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Savage Souls (Audio CD)
This is the only Mystic Prophecy album I own. But I've heard clips and even full songs from all their other albums, and I'm convinced that "Savage Souls" is their best work.

It appears that after the departure of guitar virtuoso Gus G., the band worked even harder than before, resulting in an album unmatched before or since. (A similar situation happened a few years earlier with Iron Savior and their masterpiece Condition Red.)

This album is jam-packed with one great song after another: "Shadows Beyond My Soul", "Master of Sins", "Evil Empires", "Savage Souls", the list goes on and on. This is one of those rare albums where picking the highlights results in nearly the entire track list.

Musically this is fast, heavy, and aggressive, yet still melodic. And R.D. Liapakis is a great singer who can actually SING (although he does indulge in a death metal growl at the beginning of "Evil Empires").

Fans of power, thrash, melodic death, or even traditional metal should check out this album.
