5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best I have read so far!
This book is outstanding for beginners (like me). A very easy read yet so complex at the same time. "Aunt Terry" shows genuine concern for her readers and practily holds your hand through the concepts.

This book is very thorough and up to date unlike other books out there that are 7 years old and way out of date.

2 thumbs up. A great book. Very pragmatic and...

There's nothing new in this book. In fact, several reviews commented that she is just restating what she wrote years ago in her prior books. The savage truth is that Ms. Savage is acting as a mouthpiece for Microsoft by touting Microsoft products in almost every chapter. It's probably no coincidence that she works for, you guessed it, Microsoft.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent author review and book, September 20, 2003
By
Gary S. Hearser (Youngstown, Ohio) - See all my reviews
I enjoyed this book by Terry Savage. My wife bought this book along with The Road to Wealth and The Laws of Money by Suze Orman.

In many ways, Savage pushes Orman on financial advice and savvy and is a witty writer as well. Both have credentials to write financial books, unlike other authors.

I also felt that Ms. Savage showed class in her review, thanking her fans and clearing the air o n the Microsoft issue. And at least she (Savage) writes reviews using her own name, not an alias as some other authors do.

Overall good good written by a person of quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars To My readers, September 7, 2000
By
I thank the many thousands of people who have purchased and profited from my books, and those who have taken the time to write a review. But I'd like to make one correction: I do not "work for" Microsoft. I write columns for their www.MoneyCentral.com website and moderate a discussion board there, for which I am compensated. But I am also paid to write columns for the Chicago Sun-Times, Barrons Online and Mature Outlook Magazine, as well. I also do commentaries for PBS' Nightly Business Report, for which I am paid. Further, I made every effort to mention Quicken software every time I mentioned Microsoft's Money product -- except where describing different features. I pride myself on my reputation for independent journalism and hold myself to the highest standards. Sincerely, Terry Savage PS Couldn't post a review without stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quinn vs Savage?, August 31, 2003
I noticed several posts here recommending Jane Bryant Quinn's "Making the Most of Your Money" over this excellent work by Terry Savage.

I am not sure why this paid shill for Quinn continues to run down successful knowledgeable authors like Savage aside from the fact that this shill is being paid.

Aside from the fact that Terry Savages book is more up to date (Quinn's book was released over 7 years ago but is being hyped lik it is new), SAVAGE is also more knowledgeable about personal finance and investing in particular. "The Savage Truth" is not a compendium of theories ala Quinn but a composite of facts from actual clients (does Quinn have any??).
Of course not! Quinn is an author not a CFP or anythingelse.

By contrast, Savage knows and has mastered her craft. "The Savage Truth about Money" is an outstanding book and should be read by an serious financial student.

Interesting is that I pervused a local book store earlier today and found several copies of "The SAVAGE Truth", and of course a lot of books by Suze Orman. However, I could not find a single copy of "Making the Most of Your Money" by Quinn. If she is so great, how come the book stores don't even carry her books? Or are we to assume that her books only sell via the internet where people will gladly pay a huge shipping fee due to the cost of that book?

Anyway, I highly recommend "The Savage Truth on Money" for people who want straight, competent and current financial advice by a real financial authority.

I recommend Quinn's book as well but keep in mind that much of it is outdated and that Quinn is a writer without any financial credentials. Also, I am sure that anyone who has read both books and used the advice will agree that at least Terry Savage's advice works.

Have you noticed how so many of the other financial books out there all say more or less the same thing? I bought "The Savage Truth on Money" CD and was so impressed that I went back and bought the book also.Ms. Savage has a vast background on personal finance and offers a fresh and unique approach that is backed with fact. She is a pleasure to listen to as well. Playing her CD is like having Ms. Savage in your car or office talking directly to you.Great program but only for those who are open minded.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for women, September 20, 2003
By
Lou Bixler (Santa Monica, CA) - See all my reviews
I bought this book by Terry Savage along with Don't Mess with My Money by the Dolans after returning Making the Most of Your Money by Quinn.

I have to admit I felt a little strange buying this book which at first appeared to be for women, but after inspection, found this book to be outstanding and a great financial book for everyone.

Ms Savage covers everything you need to know about money from mutual funds, "chicken money", insurance and going on into retirement. Her style makes this an easy read and she is witty too.

By contrast, I bought Making the Most of Your Money by Quinn and was wholly dissappointed--returned it after one day.

Terry Savage has written an excellent book for anyone interested in truly Making the Most of their Money. In Savage's case, it is not a fancy line, but reality.

Great book Terry. I am looking forward to your next foray!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book! Ignore the JBQ shill., August 29, 2003
The Savage Truth on Money is a well written and highly informative money management book. Unlike say Making the most of your money by Quinn which is just a big book with mostly useless and outdated information.Ths book covers all aspects of financial planning and is written by someone actually qualified and certified to teach.I like the fact that Savage discusses options to protect your gains. This strategy alone same me a small fortune during the last bear market. And please ignore the 1 star reviews. Obviously they all emenate from the same person, a JBQ shill who doesn't realize that Savage does not work for Microsoft. Just a cheap smear campeign so typical of this individual. The Savage Truth is an OUTSTANDING book well worth your time and moneyand much better than JBQ's Making the Most of Your Money which is undoubtably the most overhyped book of all time.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Financial Planning Book Everyone Should Own, October 19, 1999
There are perhaps 1,000 worthless books on investing and financial planning that have some gimmick or that appeal to the reader's sense of greed to get them to buy the book.

This one isn't like that. It is simply TERRIFIC. Terry's advice is well grounded in discpline and common sense that is applicable to the sophisticated investor as well as those just getting started in providing for the future.

If you only own one such book, this should be the one. If you already own a bunch of the worthless ones, throw them away and get this one.

It's as good as it gets!

5.0 out of 5 stars Disregard those reviews by tax people, brokers etc., October 1, 2003
This review is from: The Savage Truth on Money (Audio CD)
I have Terry's book but also enjoy listening to quality material in my car so bought the cd as well. This is a very complete, financial education program. SHE COVERS EVERYTHING. And I found the tax information very beneficial as well.

I noticed one of the negative reviewers claiming to be a tax attorney. How can we expect this person to give a fair and credible review of this book and tape program. He is afraid of losing business!

Don't expect brokers to be anymore sympathetic either. They would rather have you buy their "Soup D'Jour" which pays them the highest commissions irregardless of whether you make money or not.

The JBQ crusaders; all I can say is compare the background and credentials of Ms. Savage and JBQ. NO CONTEST!

The Savage Truth on Money is an excellent program and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Savage Truth On Money, January 24, 2000
By A Customer
I just wanted to let people know that I thought the book was very informative and written well. I asked for the book for Christmas, received it, and once I started to read it, couldn't stop. I recently finished reading the Motley Fool Investment Workbook and The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Market Investing by Jason Kelly, which were also very good. I thought The Savage Truth, however, was the most well rounded of the three.
