Editorial Reviews

Savages is heralded by the fiery single, "Drown," produced by longtime collaborator Howard Benson (Halestorm, My Chemical Romance).

Tyler Connolly, vocalist and guitarist of Theory Of A Deadman commented, "We went back to where we belong on this record, back to the angst, back to the darkness. We veered off the road a bit on this one but it took us right to where we needed to be." Connolly expanded further on the band's inspiration behind "Drown" stating, " "Drown" is about being alone, the feeling of being washed away and left to your own devices. We ve all felt that way at some point in our lives; unable to stay afloat, we sink to the bottom which always seems easier in the end than fighting your way back to the surface."

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Album July 30, 2014
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
If you like Theory it's a good album. Like anything else..some songs just hit you and you'll really enjoy them from the start and other songs have to grow on you for a little while. I think this is in line with many of their other albums, but to date Scars and Souvenirs was by far my favorite.

4.0 out of 5 stars real fans - watch the fine print August 1, 2014
By Rho
Format:Audio CD
I did not notice "edited" or "clean," I just bought the first one shown. You must go to "other formats" to find the explicit version. Not that swear words are required, but they are noticeably absent and certainly part of the TOAD style. I guess I'll have to buy a second copy.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Back To The Angst July 29, 2014
Format:Audio CD
It seems like bands are realizing their mistakes and improving as artists. This has happened with THEORY OF A DEADMAN and their latest album SAVAGES, which is their best since their self-titled debut in 2002, which I expected after hearing the first single, DROWN. There are things that I don't really care for about this record, such as some of the lyrics aren't very well written (such as BLOW, which seems to be a shot at modern society, but instead comes off as forced and laughable). But, happily, the problems I had with their previous work, and especially their misogynistic previous album THE TRUTH IS, are reduced to very little. There are even solos on this album that are pulled off pretty well. Notable standouts on this album include SALT IN THE WOUND, the title track (which features Alice Cooper), MISERY OF MANKIND, ANGEL, and LIVING MY LIFE LIKE A COUNTRY SONG, which features a surprise visit from Joe Don of Rascal Flatts (who are one of the few country music artists I actually enjoy). Overall, if you're expecting to be surprised, than SAVAGES is an easy album to get invested in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Theory is BACK July 29, 2014
By CMarz19
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I've been a fan of Theory for a while. I have always liked the sound of their music as well as the creativity of their lyrics.

The first track, and single, "Drown" is a good song and the music video to pair with it completes the debut.

My favorite tracks on the album are "Blow" and "Livin' My Life Like A Country Song"; mostly because of the lyrics. In "Blow" they take shots at Kanye West and how the world has gone officially insane. "Livin' My Life Like A Country Song" has a good sound to it and uses the lyrics from some popular country songs to describe how his life has gone out of control.

On my second run through the album now and it a better listen than the first time around (which was great). If you're a Theory fan, you'll like this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Theory Strikes Back w "Heavy" a vengeance!! September 5, 2014
Format:Audio CD
This is a great heavy album. Been loving "Panic Room", "World War Me", "Savages" w Alice Cooper is exceptional,. "Drown" is a great first single. Their ballads sound a little like Nickelback but the do sound great w "Angel", best ballad on album n also "The One" is a great ballad too. Blow" n "Country Song" are great as they are funny. "Salt in the Wound" n "Misery of Mankind" are great rock tracks as well. The last 2 songs are average n still overall the album is great. After ha hving it for a month iavegone thru the album like 10+ times. U want Heavy they guve

5.0 out of 5 stars Great rock album for the summer TOAD does it again! July 29, 2014
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Great album the only i have to say there aren't any funny songs. But they took a different direction with serious issues in today's society. Great album and lots of good riffs and ballads. But hopefully their next album will be like scars or the truth is. Still the best band in rock music in today's mainstream rock. My favorite songs are Savages Blow Heavy and Drown.

5.0 out of 5 stars No surprises here. Solid effort. Fun to Listen to. September 20, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
No surprises here. Solid effort. This CD is consistent with the style of all prior Theory of a Deadman CDs. If you are a fan of their previous releases, don' hesitate to add this CD to your collection. Can't wait to see these guys at the Louder than Life festival in Louisville KY in October.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Theory album September 14, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Not quite as heavy as some of the older Theory albums but still quite good! Drown is pretty heavy though, and there are some very catchy songs. I haven't listened to it too many times, but I'm glad I got it! If you like Theory then you can't go wrong with this one.
