Perfect Beach Read
Mary Kay Andrew has finally written another story which brings back the fun and entertainment that she had with Savannah Blues. Savannah Breeze opens at a black tie function where we meet BeBe Loudermilk, a triple divorced restaurant and property owner who just met up with the handsome and seemingly perfect Reddy. The two of them instantly heat up and start a relationship. While BeBes begins to have visions of Reddy being the "one" her grand mother becomes ill and is hospitalized. While faced with an overwhelming amount of duties in her personal and professional life, BeBe allows Reddy to step in and help her out with her finances and business dealings. Without even knowing what hit her, Reddy walked off with everything BeBe owned except her car, restaurant, clothes on her back, and The Breeze Inn: an old out dated motel on Tybee Island that Reddy acquired for some reason and put in her name. Without having a home to live in, or the money to run her restaurant, BeBe decides to take a look at the Breeze Inn and see what she can make of it. When she arrives, BeBe meets up with Harry the irritable older maintenance man who was hired by the previous owner to fix up the place. Harry and BeBe certainly do not get along because they have a differing opinion of what should happed to the motel. Harry think she should keep it and fix it up, and BeBe wants to knock it down and sell off the property to the highest bidder. Since the motel seems to be in limbo with another possible owner, BeBe is forced to make the best out of the temporary situation and just fix up the hotel and try and bring in some much needed money. As things are finally coming along for BeBe at the motel she gets word from her lawyer that Reddy was spotted in Florida running a scam on another unsuspecting victim. So with the help of her friend Weezie (from Savannah Blues) Harry, and BeBes grandfather, they hightail it off to Florida to get her money back and to get even with Reddy. What follows in the story is the perfect mix of summer fun, romance, and revenge. You will love fixing up The Breeze Inn with Weezie, watching the attraction between Harry and BeBe grow, the pure enjoyment of a woman scorned getting even and learning that you can be happy in life without a lot of material things if you simply enjoy what you are doing.

Breeze along to Savannah and beyond,
By
This review is from: Savannah Breeze (Hardcover)
In this sequel to Savannah Blues BeBe Loudermilk is on an emotional rollercoaster and I was right with her every step of the way. I laughed, I felt her pain, I got angry, and I cheered her on for her revenge. I also didn't want her to mess up another chance for love. Her friend Weezie brings along her decorating skills and her loyalty to her friend. All in all this is a fun non-stop action read and a quality follow-up. A big thumbs up for this one.

More adventures with Weezie and BeBe.,
By
This review is from: Savannah Breeze (Hardcover)
If you liked "Savannah Blues" this book won't disappoint. This story is told mostly through the eyes of Southern femme BeBe Loudermilk, unlike "Blues" which was all Weezie's story. Although the plot is wildly improbable, the characters are charming and irresistable. BeBe, a strong yet totally southern "steel magnolia" gets taken for everything by a slick con man. Together with her best friend Weezie, and a few other accomplices, they try to track down the scoundrel to deal with him. The most interesting aspect of the story is how BeBe deals with her reversal of fortune. Although the outcome is no big surprise, the journey is humorous and touching.

This review is from: Savannah Breeze (Hardcover)
Mary Kay Andrews has written SAVANNAH BREEZE about a social climbing, 30 something heroine with real estate holdings, a successful restaurant, and a wonderful social life in Savannah, Georgia who quickly has to make the preverbal 'silk purse out of a sow's ears'. We go on this whirlwind ride with Be Be Loudermilk as she looses almost every thing that she owns to one crafty, good looking swindler. In the process of getting retribution, Be Be gains a rugged lover, endearing friendships, even greater respect from her dear old Granddad, and a retro -fitted 1950's Sea Breeze dilapidated cabins cum "Luxury Inn".
The reader goes on a adventure with these characters that has us cringing in our seats with the risks involved, while cheering on a clever scheme devised by Be Be to get back everything taken from her --plus some. Beauty and brains in a heroine, and suspense and laughter for the reader. Never a dull moment while we enjoy the breezes, and the blizzards, of this writing by Mary Kay Andrews. Remember the sun screen because you will be reading this book from sunup to sundown while sipping your favorite summer drink!!

madcap satirical crime thriller,
This review is from: Savannah Breeze (Hardcover)
With three divorces notched on her belt and only thirty-five, Savannah high society BeBe Loudermilk is seeing financial consultant Ryan Edward "Reddy" Millbanks III. However, this time her poor choice in men haunts her without going down the aisle; he embezzles most of her money. Her only asset is the dilapidated Breeze Inn on Tybee Island.
Her best friend antiques expert Weezie agrees to help BeBe convert her motel into a four star place (make that three stars). However, at the Breeze Inn, BeBe and manager Harry spend their time arguing over what should and should not be done. However, to everyone's shock, the cheap renovations work and the Breeze Inn becomes an in spot. When Reddy surfaces in Lauderdale, BeBe accompanied by Weezie, Harry, and her grandfather on hiatus from weather watching TV, head south to swindle the rat. This madcap satirical crime thriller is so much fun to read as BeBe and company set in motions a wild plan ironically to extort her money back from Reddy. The cast is eccentric, crazy, and enjoyable to follow their antics; mindful of a Maverick in which he sets up a swindle to trick the shark who originally conned him. Fans of an amusing way out jocular thriller will appreciate the sequel to the just as nutty entertaining SAVANNAH BLUES. Harriet Klausner

Disappointing sequel to Savannah Blues,
By
This review is from: Savannah Breeze (Hardcover)
Thrice divorced steel magnolia Bebe Loudermilk (first introduced in Andrews Savannah Blues) has been duped by a sexy con man named Reddy Millbanks and taken for all she is worth. Well, he was not completely selfish - he left her with the crumbling motel on Tybee Island. Ever resourceful (she did all the renovations on her other properties), Bebe turns the dilapidated motel around and manages to make it into a showplace.
When she receives a tip that Reddy has been spotted in Florida, Bebe, best friend Weezie, her grandpa, and pal Harry travel down Fort Lauderdale and give Reddy a taste of his own medicine and regain her fortune, and manage to get themselves into some pretty sticky situations.. Andrews first three books were phenomenal, particularly Savannah Blues. This sequel just did not live up to the humor and enchantment of its predecessor. At times, I had a hard time sticking with the story, and when the first person started changing from chapter to chapter, it got a little confusing. On its own, it is a three star novel, as a sequel to the far superior "Blues" it only rates a 2.

A Southern Romp Featuring Revenge & Some Romance,
By
This review is from: Savannah Breeze (Hardcover)
I count on Mary Kay Andrews for her spunky southern women, her silly situations and a fun read. She doesn't disappoint in Savannah Breeze. Bebe Loudermilk gets taken by a good looking man and vows to get her money and self-respect back. Best friend Weezie (Savannah Blues) takes time from her antiquing to help her out, while pushing her towards a new romance.
You don't need to have read the earlier book, as this one can stand alone. It's fun reading and full of offbeat characters and southern atmosphere.

Typical but Fun!,

This review is from: Savannah Breeze: A Novel (Paperback)
Savannah Breeze is a fun-filled sequel to Savannah Blues which I have not read (yet). Regardless of not knowing the previous story, BeBe's story was easy to jump into and you never feel too lost not knowing the characters previously. BeBe Loudermilk, a three time divorcee' has found herself in another humiliating situation: a man posed as the perfect man and managed to perfectly leave her without anything besides the clothes on her back, the car she was driving, her restaurant that she can't afford to keep open and... the Breeze Motel. With nothing else to loose, BeBe heads out to the Breeze and finds Hank, the cranky manager and a hotel that is in needs of lots of work - work she can't redily afford.
This novel is a great fun to read and I found myself flying through the pages. The things that happen to BeBe somewhat seem a bit farfetched but Mary Kay Andrews tells it so simply and honestly that it seems that you could be reading the story of your friend who found herself in a pickle. A typical chick-lit book but a fun ride.

I cannot say enough good things about this book...its imposible to put it down. Mary Kay Andrews has us Southern women pegged for sure. She will make you laugh out loud and often because the characters remind you of yourself or someone you know. If you love the south, and especially Savanah, you will LOVE this book.
Oh yes....the story is interesting as well as funny. That's always important, isn't it ? |
