You made a vacation even better-as if it were possible,
By Avid Reader (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Savannah from Savannah (Paperback)
I love to save reading material for my vacations. So I did. I only wish I had had the sequel in hand when I closed the final page. It was funny, poingnat, sometimes thought provoking, but never dull. Unlike the reviewer before me-it gave me the opportunity to have a laugh and a cry all at the same time. Just when Hildreth was getting me in the gut she would come out with something humorous in what seemed to be a rather life-altering moment. That to me is a gift. One I'm glad she shared with me.
Bring on the next one. Only sooner next time if possible.

Good for a first novel,
By Matt "Loves Jana" (Summerville, SC US of A) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Savannah from Savannah (Paperback)
The book itself was engaging, but a few characters came and went with no impact whatsoever, after a couple of pages were wasted on them. A lot of the ends needed to be tied up. And the CONSTANT product placement of Kate Spade and the authors husband, Johnathan Pierce, tended to get a bit annoying. Overall, though, worth a couple of hours.

Savannah From Savannah,
By Sheila Kelley (Camden South Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Savannah from Savannah (Paperback)
This book is funny, sad, mysterious and loving. I love the way the writer has made Savannah come alive and how the characters seem like your neighbor. A fresh and pure book that shows a family united with love and God. A Town that is proud of its heritage. Makes me want to visit Savannah and meet these people. Ms. Hildreth is in the class with Nicholas Sparks.

Savannah from Savannah,
By A Customer
This review is from: Savannah from Savannah (Paperback)
This is the best novel I've read in years! It makes you laugh, it makes you cry....and it makes you think. From page one you are hooked and you can't stop until the end. The characters seem so real and you feel like you get to know each of them personally. My teenage girls, ages 13 & 17, read it and loved it, too. But best of all...it opened up conversations between us about things we may never have otherwise discussed. This book should be the next Hallmark movie...it's that good. You finish it wanting more. I can't wait for a sequel!

good, not great,
By
This review is from: Savannah from Savannah (Paperback)
I voted 3 stars, but really feel that it's a 3.5 I have mixed feelings about this book. I loved some of the characters, but I didn't necessarily love the writing, if that makes any sense. I found them to be funny caricatures, not relatable people. The people who most intrigued me (like Gregory) weren't heard from much. Also, there was some awkwardness in forcing "moral of the story" type passages into the plot. I found myself laughing at certain points, and scratching my head at others. I will say this: I intend to read the sequel, but I also don't expect much. My overall impression is that the premise is cute, but it could have been done better in the hands of a more competent writer.

Way to go Mrs. Hildreth!,
This review is from: Savannah from Savannah (Paperback)
Mrs.Hildreth did an excellent job on her first novel. Savannah from Savannah captured me from the beginning and held me to the end. I especially enjoyed the way she included names and places familar to us. I have been a huge fan of Jonathan Pierce's for years so I was thrilled each time his name came up. I have never been to Savannah, GA so I learned a lot about the city. Southern women on the other hand, I do know about and this book captures the truth about us... we can be fisty....If only I had a little bit of their grace. The previous reviewer mentioned not reading the end of the book, yet predicted how it ended. How can that be if they didn't finish the book? Read it to the end and you will be glad you did. Then grab Savannah Comes Undone for some more fun with Savannah from Savannah. You will be surprised what other things you learn about yourself on the journey. She and "Vicky" are true southern ladies:-)

Enjoyable, if you like Chick Lit,
By Virginia Smith (Kentucky USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Savannah from Savannah (Paperback)
Savannah is an independent young woman whose beauty queen mom is something of a control freak, which creates quite a few chuckles and the occasional laugh-out-loud description. The book is full of the southern flavor you would expect with title like that, and the typical chick lit designer names are scattered liberally throughout the pages. At times the story's tempo drags while the main character learns her lessons the hard way, but I forgave the occasional slow scene because Savannah is such a fun character. There were a few loose ends, which I assume the author will tie up in the sequel. Enjoyable, but if you don't like Chick Lit you probably won't get into this one.

Love Savannah!,

This review is from: Savannah from Savannah (Paperback)
I love the characters in Savannah From Savannah. Savannah feels like someone I already know and love. The book is full of grace and charm with a wonderful wit and delicious characters. It's kind of a chick lit coming of age, Southern novel. Hard to characterize but easy to love!

Take me to Savannah,
By Reader (Santa Monica, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Savannah from Savannah (Paperback)
I don't know what you people do in the south, but I need to come and find out. Because this book has caused me to fall in love with you. I have laughed, even might have cried a time or two. But more than any of that I just fell in love with the people, the city, and the very atmosphere. Denise Hildreth has a way of capturing people and telling a story that makes you want to visit again. I hope the next one is soon. Of course I'll probably just pick it up when I come to visit Savannah.

Savannah from Savannah,
By Darlyn C Goude (Camden, South Carolina United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Savannah from Savannah (Paperback)
This book captures you from the beginning. As each person is introduced they become a part of Savannah. Makes me want to go to Savannah so I can pay a visit to Jake's Coffee Shop and pat Duke on the head. I would love to see the McDonald's Coke machine in the back of Jake's Coffee Shop. Savannah is a young lady that keeps you wondering what she is going to do next. She will not leave you with a dull moment. She knows where she is going and is determined to make it on her own. Many mothers can see a lot of their own daughters in Savannah. It lets us know the importance of encouraging the dreams and ambitions God has put in our children. We may see them come to pass. |
