Great General Information - Lacking in "how to" help sheets, October 9, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Save $50,000 on Your New Home: Yes! You Can Be Your Own General Contractor (Paperback)
This book has lots of valuable information for anyone considering being their own general contractor, but lacks some "work sheet" type of documents or templates that would be nice to have. For example: It would have been nice to see a detail Chart that the reader could use as a template for a TIME-LINE of Subcontractor schedueling - estimations of general rates, etc. The book does go into detail about some of the "tricks" that subcontractors will try to pull in submitting their bids - and this information will save you money - from not getting burned yourself! Better to learn from someone else's experiance. The book does a good job talking about how contractors will react to your project - as a "one time" job for them, and how to perhaps overcome this problem. This books is worth the money, but may not be THE book on Being your own General Contractor.
