To Save America by Newt Gingrich is a fantastic book laying out real solutions to our everyday problems. Each chapter does a wonderful job of laying out the problems we are facing in every day America and giving us real solutions. I was lucky enough to get an early copy and have spent most of the day reading it. Trust me this book is worth the read and you should pick up a copy for yourself to find out why.

Newt is the man that should be leading this country into the new millennium. He is simply brilliant and knows history and it's consequences like no other. Can't wait til November and better even yet, 2012 when someone hopefully like Newt Gingrich is elected president. Wake up America!

While I have only read the first Chapter, which I downloaded last night from his website, I was very impressed. Within those first 30 pages Newt was doing what he does best, teach.

I have been sitting on the sidelines watching the transformative policy taken by Obama, and despite going to Tea Parties, I have not felt that I can make an impact, and give direction to our movement. Newt's ability to show where change can occur and in what direction it can be moved makes me feel responsible again and it lets me have faith that this is my country.

Like he did in 1994, with this book Newt shows that Republicans are not just the party of "no".

Gingrich's title for this book has two meanings. The first is "To Save America" from the current reckless and destructive set of policies the Obama administration is cramming through Congress. Our national spending is out of control, the private sector is withering, the public sector (and all its bureaucratic costs) are exploding, and our national sovereignty is being weakened as we are becoming more subject to unelected and undemocratic international agreements and regulatory bodies.

The second meaning flows from the direction Obama is taking to "fundamentally transform" the nation. Obama and Congress cannot make these transformations Constitutionally, so they simply wave their arms and ignore our nation's history, the basis of our government, and push through their Leftist agenda with wild and ridiculous claims about this or that clause in the Constitution without any regard to what was actually meant by the founders and framers of our government. They torture the words until they confess that the Feds can now make each of us buy a health insurance policy they deem proper for us. What's next? Telling us what groceries we can or can't buy so we will not incur extra health care costs? What cars we can own and when we can drive them to avoid health care costs from accidents?

Gingrich lays out his arguments in 24 short and clearly written chapters. This book is the most explicit and direct argument I have seen him make about what is wrong about the Obama agenda and the direction the Progressives are moving the country. He lays out an argument about what America has been and who we are as a people and compares that to what he calls the "Secular-Socialist Machine" (and what he means by that term - don't let others define it for you - read the chapter). He also uses their clear words about what they told us and, by comparing them to the actions Obama has taken, shows them to be lies.

He takes us through the disaster of ObamaCare and ACORN supported voter fraud. I especially appreciated the chapter showing why BIG BUSINESS and the Secular-Socialist Machine are natural allies rather than the enemies the Progressive rhetoric makes them out to be. Big business wants to be protected from competition and be guaranteed revenues, and that can only happen when the government is used to distort the market in their favor. You can be sure that you and I, as consumers, lose big time the stronger this unholy alliance becomes.

Gingrich also takes on the way climate "science" is used to foster the agenda of the secular-socialist machine and how the corruption at the United Nations also fosters this usurpation of our liberties and national sovereignty.

But this book is not just about the threat. Gingrich provides a program for turning this back. The first step is demanding an honest national conversation and using the facts to speak the truth and electing the right people who can implement that tough decisions we have to make as a nation. Merely tweaking the present system will do nothing. We need to replace it and tear out whole bureaucracies and junk vast amounts of regulation. We must refashion the American economy so we can compete well in the world rather than continue the hollowing out of American manufacturing and the diminishing of American prosperity. We must support the founding new enterprises and the growth of small companies. Through them our economy can be revitalized and develop the new technologies that will enable America to compete with and lead the entire world. Gringrich wisely calls for replacing the "entitlement state" with the "empowerment society". Amen and it is about time!

He spends two chapters dealing with lowering the cost of healthcare and ending the massive fraud that ALWAYS follows massive government programs. Gingrich also shows that there is a way for conservatives to be "green" and compares that to the phony environmentalism of the Left, which uses massive government regulation as a means of political control more than it seeks true environmental protection and economic growth.

I also appreciated his chapter on religious freedom. You can also read the book he and his wife wrote: "Re-discovering God in America", which I think is terrific. Rediscovering God in America

Gingrich also lays out the major threats facing America in the 21st Century. He also talks about why the Tea Party movement is GOOD for America and closes with three chapters on solutions that are deeply rooted in American history and flow from our historical values as a nation.

Terrific, clear, and I hope we have a national discussion around the things Gingrich discusses in this book.

Please get a copy and read it. And share it with your friends. You may end up disagreeing with Gingrich. Fine. But let's have a serious discussion before we take rigid positions.

My original review was based on the way that the star-rating is used in search results on Amazon.com. I've read almost all of Newt's books (And now i've also finished this one.) Once again Newt hits the nail on the head. To at least half of the voters in this country Newt has succinctly explained what we need to do in order to bring the country back in line with our ideals... If you disagree with his/our ideals maybe you'd show some empathy and read it anyway. ;)

Balancing out a biased reviewer.
I have just purchased this book and will update my review in the comments here; I am giving 5-stars merely to balance the obvious biased and worthless review previously given.

While the mass media has been enamored with President Barack Obama and the Democratic Congress, they have been lacking in their journalistic duties by not calling into question the detrimental policies that have been passed only to endanger the future of America. However, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich takes the Obama Administration to task in his latest book, "To Save America: Stopping Obama's Secular-Socialist Machine."

From the outset, Gingrich astutely explains the threats posed to individual liberties and limited government by President Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. As the three leaders of the secular-socialist machine, Obama, Pelosi, and Reid are unilaterally pushing through legislation such as health care reform and government bailouts, which Gingrich and fellow experts from organizations such as the Center for Health Transformation argue will overburden taxpayers, kill jobs, and amass ineffective bureaucracy upon individuals. Gingrich breaks it down for the reader in common sense language that the Left are stripping away traditional America with its limited government, free markets, and religious principles and replacing it with big government policies favoring unions and other ideologues. Through chapters proposing policy reforms on health care, energy, green conservatism, and education, Gingrich convincingly details how America can regain its prominence in the world and how the individual can triumph over the encroachment of big government.

Although to readers who may deem Gingrich a partisan conservative, he acknowledges encouraging initiatives from across the aisle. For instance, Gingrich lauds First Lady Michelle Obama for her campaign against obesity in children. If only more Democrats and Republicans could engage in such noble campaigns and reach across the aisle to legislate common sense reforms that will encourage economic growth, job creation, competitiveness in math and science education, and real health care reform. Gingrich closes by leaving it up to the reader to decide as an American citizen to get involved in elections so government works for the people not for bigger government. The American citizen can start by reading and sharing this book with everyone they know.

Brilliant policy prescriptions from one of the brightest political minds today. Very informative and thought provoking. A must read for the upcoming presidential election.

He's got good ideas, but talk is cheap. Implementing ideas is the goal. He is a part of 'the same old bunch' but he is impressive.

I do a fair amount of driving and enjoy having audiobooks to listen to during that time. Newt Gingrich is very articulate and brings enormous insight and knowledge to many topics and I am always on the lookout for his latest speeches and books. I couldn't wait for this one and bypassed the hard-copy to grab the audiobook which said it is read by Newt. Well - it is not read by him. He reads the chapter titles and his wife reads the book in a monotone passionless voice so it sounds like a textbook. The topics and information are great, with the normal abundance of examples to illustrate his points. However, the emotion and delivery that Newt would have brought to this as an audiobook is not there so it doesn't hold your attention at all. This isn't Rocky stumbling through Green Eggs and Ham when he was reading aloud to Talia Shire in a coma - Calista's voice is clear and articulate. But, the pace never changes, the tone stays the same, the volume never increases or falls, sacasism is delivered in the same bland manner as the rest of the book and loses its impact. It's probably even worse to have Newt jump in every 10 minutes and announce a new chapter heading as it reminds you that the whole book is his words and you're not hearing him deliver them. I'll have to purchase the hard copy as there is no way I'll survive the audiobook delivery but the content is very good so far. I cannot even give this to non-political friends because while they may have listened to Newt's voice, they'll never even finish 20 minutes of this version.
