I was surprised to see the great reviews on this book because I'm struggling to finish it. It seems to be very drawn out and quite boring. I'll finish it but it's definitely a chore.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Best Will Last, August 19, 2009
This review is from: Save The Best For Last (Paperback)
In the opening scene of Save the Best for Last by Bettye Griffin, Genevieve L'Esperance has just found out that her boyfriend, Barry, is still married and not divorced as he has told her. But this breach of trust will be nothing compared to the revelation that awaits Genevieve when she returns to her East Side condo and finds out that the INS has been inquiring about her. So, to stay in the United States, Genevieve needs to marry an American citizen, and Barry offers to marry her, once his divorce is final. Meanwhile, Dexter Grey, a struggling student with one more semester before he gets his law degree, appears on the scene, and Genevieve sees an opportunity where they can help each other out. Just who is Genevieve, and why is this polished, educated, successful graphic artist scared for her life?

Ms. Griffin has written a wonderful story which allows the reader to walk in Genevieve's shoes as she tries to make sense of her situation. Is Barry the friend he claims to be? Are the emotions she feels for Dexter real or just gratitude based on a legal agreement? How long will she have to wait before she has a loving relationship like her parents, and will her secrets be exposed and possibly harm others? Along with affairs of the heart, Ms. Griffin delicately addresses the issue of illegal immigration and shows the reader there is a fine line between the status of who is illegal or legal.

I enjoyed this book for the suspenseful elements in the story as the twists and turns had me shouting at Genevieve to see the obvious and grab the man who will provide her with true happiness. I recommend this book to romance readers and fans of Bettye Griffin. This is a perfect book to read as you wind down from the lazy days of summer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story, June 25, 2011

This book is more about the story than the spice. Gen is an illegal immigrant who proposes a marriage of convenience to Dexter to obtain her citizenship in exchange for payment of his last semesters law school tuition. These two had chemistry from their first meeting so it was inevitable that they would get together. The story is very detailed with little sex scenes that are not extremely detailed, so if you like a lot of action between the sheets then this book is not for you. If you are looking for a long story that gives you a lot of background on the characters and a lot of descriptive details then definitely pick this one up.

Graphic artist Genevieve L'Esperance has a thriving career and is loving her life in America until she discovers that her visa has run out and INS is looking for her to deport her. She is afraid of going back to her home country because she knows or suspects that her father was killed because he planned to expose the corrupt government and she knows she will be killed if deported. She is dating an older guy named Barry and he offers to marry her but during dinner with his friends, she discovers that he is already married. He claims that he is divorcing his wife and they can be married soon. Barry finally tells her that he loves her but Gen does not feel the same way about him. He convinces her to move out of her penthouse and rent a room from his friends to keep the INS at bay for awhile. She meets the other person renting a room there by the name of Dexter and after a awkward first meeting, they become friends. Barry's divorce is going to take longer than he anticipated so she decides to ask Dexter to marry her. She offers to pay for his last semester of law school in exchange for him becoming her husband of convenience or so she thought. The INS believes their story and they both end up falling in love for real but that does not sit well with Barry. He tries everything he can to break them up even blackmail but love conquers all in the end. Great story!

4.0 out of 5 stars Follow Your Heart, November 1, 2009

The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
Beautiful Genevieve L'Esperance is taking New York by storm. She's a successful graphic artist and lives in a fabulous condo. However, all that glitters isn't gold. First, she finds out her boyfriend, Barry lied about being divorced and if that isn't complicated enough, INS is looking for her. To keep her from being deported, Barry suggests they should marry after his divorce is final, but Genevieve doesn't love him in the same fashion as he loves her.

Barry solves part of Genevieve's problem by moving her to a rented room where she will be safe. She meets Dexter Gray, a struggling law student who occupies the other room on the floor. An instant attraction arises, but they keep their relationship platonic. Genevieve feels the INS getting closer and quickly devises a plan, which will benefit both of them.

Griffin has written an exciting romantic tale with a splash of suspense. As I read SAVE THE BEST FOR LAST, I became engrossed in Genevieve's emotions; her thoughts about how this business plan would affect everyone involved if it goes sour or how will she be able to keep her relationship with Dexter strictly business. Sure to please romance readers, SAVE THE BEST FOR LAST is a heart- warming story of love and trust.

4.0 out of 5 stars Save The Best For Last, August 15, 2009
This review is from: Save The Best For Last (Paperback)
Well if you have been waiting for Bettye to write a romance novel like me then the wait is over. Save The Best For Last is a wonderful book. You will meet a woman who has be harboring a secret and trust does not come easy for her, so when she meet the man and began dating she find out that he is married but is going through a divorce but for Genevieve she decided to only be Barry friend after she find out that he is married. For Genevieve until Barry divorce is finally they can only be friend. Barry has falling in love with Genevieve so when he find out that her secret he often to help her.

What Barry didn't count on is Genevieve meeting and falling in love with Dexter Gray her neighbor. Jenny and Dexter start off as friendship but soon turn into love. Dex is a man who has one semester of college left before he graduate but the way things are looking he is short on money and may have to postpone college for a minute. Now by this time Jenny has told Barry her secret she is in the State illegal and she need to be married in order for her to continue to become a citizen. Barry has already figure that once his divorce is finally which hit a snag he has to wait anther 4 month since his wife is making if difficult for him so while Jenny is waiting she proposition Dex she tell him of her problem and Jenny figure they would be helping each other Dex need money for school and Jenny will pay for college if he marry her in name only.

Barry is not happy when he finds out but from Jenny finally told Barry that she didn't love him or was not in love with him so she couldn't marry. Barry being Barry we get to see a difference size when he threaten Jenny into divorcing Dex so she can marry him, but what Barry didn't count on is the fact that Dex was a man who will fight to keep his wife and marry together and the fact that he tell Jenny that he will take care of everything.

Well I think I have gave you enough for you to purchase the book. very good and worth the wait it being a long time coming and I can't wait for me. You will not be able to put the book down once you began reading it it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent ! ( 4.5 stars), January 6, 2010
Genevieve Shane has all the material things money can buy. On top of that, she is intelligent as well as beautiful. She has everything except her U.S. citizenship. Time is running out and she has to do something, fast. If the INS catch up with her and deport her back to her country, she will be killed. Her current beau Barry, who she has no romantic feelings for at all, offers marriage. Gen is desperate so she accepts, even though she only believes in marriage for love. When their plans are delayed, Barry suggest she move into his friends' rental where she would share the upstairs apartment with an unkempt, devilishly handsome doctor who is in law school. Dexter Gray has one more semester before he will be finished with law school, but he has encountered a problem. Can Gen and Dexter come to a mutual agreement that will benefit them both without their hearts getting involved?

Save The Best For Last is an excellent read by Bettye Griffin. The characters are very realistic and relatable. You find yourself drawn to the characters and rooting for their relationship to succeed. The plot was very well developed. The storyline also flowed well, which made for an easy read. I thoroughly enjoyed Save The Best For Last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Last Is Sometimes The Best, August 16, 2009
This review is from: Save The Best For Last (Paperback)
This was a very moving story with a well thought out plot ,believable but everyday

type characters and enough emotion to keep you turning the pages every minute. The

chemistry between Gen and Dexter was a silent type of fiery one that was destined

to ignite. Barry on the other hand was captured (character wise) for just what he

was which to me was a possessive control freak in need of a new "belonging", however

I do think he had some feelings for Gen although they were not reciprocated the way

he would have liked. The characters of Gen and Dexter were so honestly displayed

that one could feel their turmoil as they found a way to help each other out with

their dilemnas hers for freedom and his for tuition. He impressed me with his

determination to pay her back and win her love. Gen with her strong personality

stood her ground with Barry and I say "You Go Girl"".Gen and Dexter not only saved

the best for last(love) they realized at last that it was "the best"
