About the Author

Doreen Kukral is a former advertising account executive turned stay-at-home mom and creator of MomGoesGreen.com, a popular weblog that offers a glimpse into her family's journey to going green. Raised by a single mother on a public school teacher's salary, she quickly learned that frugality and cost-cutting was a necessity but none of the necessities in life needed to be sacrificed as a result. Her mom's passion for “being green” ( long before “green” had the meaning it has today) also became a passion for Doreen, dating back to regularly packing up recyclables and carting them across town to the only recycling center in multiple counties. Today she lives comfortably with her husband and two children on the income of only her husband, but they proudly carry little debt and still live a green and environmentally-friendly lifestyle. Her hope is to inspire others by sharing realistic ideas and information necessary to make wise choices where family health, wellness and environmental conservation are concerned. She shares her best tips and tricks at MomGoesGreen.com and hopes to help dispel the misconception that environmental consciousness and a healthy well-being are costly commitments. Her greatest inspiration is doing her part to help make the world a better place for her children and she hopes to teach them how to treat their planet and live a better, healthier, eco-friendly life. Please feel free to join me at www.momgoesgreen.com for more information about leading a green lifestyle. 4.0 out of 5 stars Good Ideas, Easy To Put Into Practice August 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I've been a frugal environmentalist for many years, so I didn't expect to find many new ideas in Save Green While You Go Green. I was happy to learn some new tips, though, that made the book well worth reading. I especially liked the author's idea for using the radio to save water in the shower (if that intrigues you, get the book) and her recipe for a safe, natural cleaning solution.

While the focus of the book seems to be more on saving money than on going green, it's true that the two go hand-in-hand. As I read through the book, I realized that the ways we waste the most money are also the ways that we cause so much damage to the earth. Just the part about the cost and effect of buying bottled water was staggering.

This is an easy-to-read book full of relatively painless ways to save money and help our planet. It's almost like a checklist that you can return to again and again to remind yourself of your goals. From utilities, food, and shopping to health, transportation, and entertainment, you'll find ideas here that can save you a ton of money and help you be kind to the environment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Attention This book will make & save you money August 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found Doreen Kukral through her husband, Jim [...]. I had no idea what to expect but was completely blown away with 'Save Green While You Go Green' The Cleaning, Health & Energy tips had the most immediate benefit for our family. So often, I feel the "green" movement/lifestyle is pushed/shoved at us. She does a great job of developing a sense of responsibility without the 'Green Guilt'. Doreen reminds us of how simple things create successful solutions for our family, friends, & the future of the environment. I recommend this book to people who are looking to save money & save the environment, she proves both can be accomplished very reasonably. Great reference for the novice & the green expert.

This is a terrific book full of great ideas about ways to save $ while you go green! The simple suggestions will appeal to both adults and families alike. Great tips on buying produce, using home remedies found in your spice cabinet, and getting friends and neighbors involved in re-use parties. This book doesn't list a lot of obscure ingredients or crazy hoarding methods, just simple changes to make to save a lot of money. I can't recommend this book highly enough!
