4.0 out of 5 stars So many hits!
First of all, this movie looks great, and second, the soundtrack is chock full of awesome r&b hits. It's a very good buy. Here are the tracks: 1. THEME FROM "SAVE THE LAST DANCE" (by Fredro Star): This is a pretty good rap/soul song. I can see why it was the theme for the movie. It's very possitive and movie soundtrackish. Does that make sense? 2. YOU (by...

3.0 out of 5 stars surprising
when i bought the soundtrack i was sort of expecting it to be a little bit more upbeat and hardcore rap, but it has it's own fair share of slow r&b jams, which i don't generally prefer, so i found it dissapointing. if you're into slow r&b music, pick it up, it's recomended, if you're looking for something a little bit more upbeat, buy the source.

2. YOU (by Lucy Pearl): I love this song! It's the best that I've heard from this group and it's a single now. Snoop is really cool in this one. So soulful. 3. BONAFIDE (by X-2-C): Nice name. Anyway, this is a really cool upbeat r&b track from an up-and-coming(?) boy band. 4. CRAZY (by K-Ci & JoJo): I love this song so much! This is one of the reasons I got this album. I love the soulful melody and the synthesizers work excellently with the vocals. 5. YOU MAKE ME SICK (by Pink): My girl Pink!!! She is wonderful and this song is wonderful! It's gonna be a huge hit because it's such a great, upbeat song. 6. U KNOW WHAT'S UP (by Donell Jones): I'm a little disappointed that this isn't the version with Left Eye in it, but it's still a great dance track. It's got a great beat! 7. MOVE IT SLOW (by Kevin Edmonds): This is a really nice r&b ballad, and usually I don't like these kind. It's got a cool "bounce" part towards the end of the song. 8. MURDER SHE WROTE (by Chaka Demus & Pliers): I haven't heard of them but I want to hear more! This is an awesome reggae flavored track with a great beat. 9. BREATHE AND STOP (by Q-Tip): This is a great party song by Q-tip. I'm sure everyone's heard it. Hey! Check Q-tip out on Janet Jackson's "Velvet Rope," the best album ever!! 10. YOU CAN DO IT (by Ice Cube): This is a favorite! It's like a brainless party song with an irresistable beat! Great for dancing and great sound effects! 11. MY WINDOW (by Soulbone): This track is okay. It's pretty slow and has a real soulful sound to it. It also has kind of a whistling sound to it. 12. ONLY YOU (by 112 w/ Notorious B.I.G.): This is a great uptempo song with a great beat. It's got that whiny boy band thing going on, but it's still pretty good. 13. GET IT ON TONITE (by Montell Jordan: This is yet another huge hit! It's a great party starter with a great beat. I mean, it's practically a modern classic! 14. ALL OR NOTHING (by Athena Cage): This is a really great uptempo r&b song. You've heard this on all the previews for this movie. I know you have! It's very good. ~ no lyrics included

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality Soundtrack, January 3, 2001
By
Chris Bauer (Shoreline, wa United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Save the Last Dance (2001 Film) (Audio CD)
I just went and picked this Soundtrack up and from the first listen it sounded pretty quality. The new movie is gettin alot of talk from Mtv so from that you know the Disc will be chalk full of contemperary beats. From the first track the theme from save the last dance it starts off as a dance/r&b groove. After this it moves to the hottest song on the cd with an 3 aritsts who seem to mix greatly. Snoops smooth flows perfectly off set Lucy Pearls souly sounds on a very funky song. The Disc moves on the the single Crazy by K-CI and JoJo. Which is a pretty stong song with a slow beat and some vocal distortions. Murder She Wrote adds some world sound to the disc wiht a Regga Beat and strait up Regga Vocals. The only problem that i see with the disc is that half the songs on the soundtrack can be found on other discs. this isnt a huge problem since the songs are quality with "breath and stop" from Q-tip and "Get it on tonight" from Montell Jorden but if u already own the Artists Albums then u have alot of the songs already. But over all this is a Quality soundtrack thats very well suited for the Mtv genaration. And how could u pass this up its got "You can do it" from Ice Cube, Now thats hot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth Checking Out, February 14, 2001

I have to say i just finally had a chance to check out the movie, I have had the soundtrack for some time now..This disc never leaves my CD player.. With a all star line up Donell Jones, Montell Jordan, Q-Tip, Ice Cube, Lucy Pearl how can you possibly go wrong in making this purchase.. Even though a lot of these tracks have been previously released by the artist mentioned.. With the exception of Lucy Pearl's You which can be found on their debut CD ..These are some of the hottest tunes to hit the airwaves and dance floors in a while.. Donell Jones' U Know What's Up one of the hottest r&b tracks of last year still sound great .. Montell Jordan's Get It On Tonite, Q-Tip's Breathe and Stop and Ice Cube's club banger You Can Do It still can get the head nodding.. The Cd also includes an underground dance hall favorite Murder She Wrote- Chaka Demus & Pliers.. Other highlights on this Cd K-CI & JoJo "Crazy" note version on the soundtrack is slightly shorter then the version on their X CD..The best song on the CD in my opinion, I have to say belong to Kevon Edmonds Move It Slow a smooth, sensual ballad .. Another newcomer SoulBone hits hard with the gritty My Window, Ballad Of Firestarter- Fredro Starr& Jill Scott all these songs are terrific.. Pick it up

5.0 out of 5 stars So Many Great Songs!, January 7, 2001
By
"gatchalova" (Philadelphia, Penn) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Save the Last Dance (2001 Film) (Audio CD)
This has to be the best soundtrack of the year! I bought this because I loved the new K-Ci & JoJo song "Crazy", but I was really amazed at how many other quality songs are packed in here. Lucy Pearl's song "You" feat. Snoop Dogg & Q-Tip is a great R&B jam. The Snoop Dogg rap keeps it fresh. Pink's "You Make Me Sick" is a very catchy R&B song with a hip-hop feel. I like her voice. They even threw in one of Ice Cube's best rap songs, "You Can Do It" (from the Next Friday movie). Also you get unforgettable hits from 1999 and 2000, like Donell Jones' "U Know What's Up" and Montell Jordan's "Get It On Tonite." You get R&B, hip-hop, soft ballads and soul music on this awesome soundtrack. It comes highly recommended!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good CD, but I hope they come out with a part 2, January 23, 2001
By
Dennis Baccam (Burke, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Save the Last Dance (2001 Film) (Audio CD)
I loved this CD because all the songs from the soundtrack are in the actual movie. HOWEVER, they need to come out with a part 2, cause there were tons of other songs in the movie that are not on this CD. For example, Mase's "What You Want" and "Be Faithful," which is the remix of Faith Evans' "Love Like This." I was mad that they didn't put it on the CD cause it's such an awesome song, and it pumps everyone up when they play it in the clubs. If anyone knows where I can buy it, please email me at dedebee@hotmail.com!

4.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack has soul, May 12, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Save the Last Dance (2001 Film) (Audio CD)
I just recently watched 'Save the Last Dance' and the movie really had a good story to it. The emotions involved with the race relations and relationships in general are very real and authentic. The soundtrack gives us a taste of all the memorable parts in the movie with all the hip hop and R&B. You can really attach yourself if you like dancing and clubbing like myself since you hear all these tunes on the dance floor. I connected to the songs like "Only You" (112), "You can do it" (Ice Cube) and of course "All or Nothing" (Athena Cage) tops it all off. "all or nothing" was the piece used in the film for the climatical audition. The movie and the soundtrack gave out alot of heart and soul as it portrays alot about real life. I can totally relate to all the tracks in this CD. In my opinion, if you hate buying a CD and hating 10 tracks out of 15 then you gotta buy this one. This CD gives all hits and the hits will never fade cause it brings back memories of the past. I enjoyed this CD and I'm sure you will too. Thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Save This Soundtrack!, January 25, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Save the Last Dance (2001 Film) (Audio CD)
WOW! This soundtrack is awesome. The mix of R&B, hip-hop and a little big of reggae makes this disc amazing. There's not one weak song, and you'll find yourself listening from beginning to end. Some of the songs from the movie aren't on this CD, but the ones that are are amazing. "Ballad of Fire Starr" is a great song about fighting racism, which links well to the movie. Athena Cage's "All or Nothing" is a fantastic song with a fabulous beat and a song you'll find yourself singing constantly. An overall great CD!!!
