4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome sound and voices
What a great albulm to spend a bright summer day outside on the lawn with some lemonade. The cd will never get old. Just listen to it a couple times and you'll be hooked. Enjoy. You won't be dissappointed

If you have bought the five CD box set "The Drifters - Original Album Series" you will know what a bargain that offering is and that the best of the two LPs included here, the 1962 release "Save the last dance for me", is already included in that box set.

As a result, only die hard Drifters fans will one suspects be interested in this new pairing. In addition, the new 1964 released LP "The good life" is really filler material vastly different in style and choice from the rest of the Drifters usual output. Comprising 12 songs largely culled from Broadway musicals of the 50s and 60s its recording apparently was a disaster with Tom Dowd and Arid Mardin having to patch the Drifters vocals with their own voices! The album is padded out with the incongruous inclusion of "Saturday night at the movies", simply because the original choice "Temptation" could not be rescued by the same approach. Overall, it is largely an exercise in cocktail lounge type music vocals with little of the group's usually excellent production values. The result is while the vocals are acceptable, none of the songs performed are very memorable.

The fact that the notes included are simply reprints of the original LP sleeve notes and no additional material reflects that this is simply an exercise in completing a re-releasing of all Drifters output, which only Drifters fans who must have everything will finally be interested in.
