Grade 3-5-Beautifully illustrated with rich full-color paintings showing the diversity of life in a rain forest, this title is a worthwhile addition to any collection. Silver describes the cycle of rain-forest growth and interdependence and concentrates on the consequences of eliminating these lands and their inhabitants for all humankind. Although it is written in language simple enough for young readers, the text is not simplistic. Much attention is paid to the possible benefits for humanity hidden in the mysteries of the rain forest and that may be lost forever through deforestation. Good maps and a list of groups concerned with habitat preservation are included.
