Book Description

The Pomeroys and the Kensingtons: Two families at war. To cease the feud they have made an arrangement of marriage. However, prior to the wedding night the bride disappears, her sentries slain. Though her body is never found, the locals insist she now haunts the wedding mansion on the Kensington family estate.

Lazarus Pomeroy is determined to solve the mystery of his fifteen-year-old daughter's disappearance and sends a plea for help to all adventurers for hire.

Para Sedi and Munwar Meek accept the challenge. Now they must not only answer the question of Alicia Pomeroy's disappearance; they must do so without jeopardizing the already tenuous peace.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intense Christian Entertainment (ICE) Review October 5, 2009
Format:Kindle Edition
Any aspiring writer should visit the internet forum [...]. I've been reading the fruits of several writers from there and so far I've been enjoying myself. If you are a visitor to ICE and wish to have your book reviewed by ICE please contact us.

I wish to thank Nona for sending me a review copy of To Save a Soul. Check it out on Amazon. Her previous works were in the Romance category. While I have not read them I think she should continue with fantasy!

To Save a Soul was apparently written in a month. That I find an amazing accomplishment, especially considering the quality of the writing. If there were any errors, plot holes, or grammar issues then I skimmed right past them!

The main driver of this story is characterization. And, no, I don't mean whether a person was a ranger or a warrior (I found it highly amusing that the characters referred to themselves like they were playing a Dungeons and Dragons game!). In this case the character is Para Sedi. While she's the main character it's her antics mannerisms that are the main show. Especially since she's quite a talker, accounting for the majority of the text in this 200 page novel, while her partner is the strong and silent type. That's not to say that the other characters were two-dimensional...they are not. It's just that you keep reading to see what Para will say or do next.

That's a very good since not only does Para save a soul she saves the plot. The author attempted to place some uncertainty in the mind of the reader but overall the plot is too straight-forward and simplistic. I kept expecting a surprise or twist but the resolution was forecast early on in the musing suspicions of Para. *SPOILER* The unhappy warrior groom being the murderer was just too obvious.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read for RPG fans! April 16, 2010
By K. Jay
Having been a fan of Ms. King's works for years, I was delighted to be asked to review the newest book in her line of original works. And, being a veteran of the NaNoWriMo challenge, I am duly impressed by what she's been able to accomplish in a month.

Ms. King's works have always been strong because of her characters, and "To Save a Soul"'s cast is compelling and endearing. The story itself is simple, but touched with the paranormal and laced with intrigue. The writing itself will draw you in, and suggests a nod in the direction of RPGs and D&D narratives.

A definite must-read for any fans of fantasy, adventure, and Ms. King's other works!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable reading experience! December 4, 2010
I don't usually read books of this genre, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. But I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and visiting the world the author created. The language, the actions of the characters, the descriptions...all were interwoven into an enjoyable tale. I especially liked the the main characters. Para and Mun were fleshed out and flawed...just the kind of characters that keep me interested.

I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars To Save A Soul, By Nona King May 12, 2010
Para Sedi and Munwar Meek are just finishing up a fight with some mercenaries at a tavern, when they get the offer of a job. Being warriors hasn't been helping to fill their purses recently, so without knowing what the job will be, they agree to travel to the small city of Pomeroy to find out what the job entails.

On the way to Pomeroy, they meet an irresistible little Sylvan. Henry Sidgwick. Once they get to the city, they find that the job involves a fifteen year old girl who has disappeared. Everyone believes she is dead. They agree to take the job, and get started immediately.

Para soon finds a compatriot in the city. The brother of the chief suspect, he is a priest, and has had one attempt on his life since the disappearance of the girl.

Can the four of them find the truth before it's too late for the fifteen-year-old Alicia Pomeroy? And can they solve the mystery without disturbing the fragile peace between the two main families of Pomeroy?

To find out, you'll have to read this book. Nona King creates characters that will make you laugh. With scenes that will make shivers chase each other up your spine.
