Who are you listening to?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Save Your Hands! Injury Prevention for Massage Therapists (Paperback)
This book was written by a woman who injured herself in massage school and then, instead of becoming a massage therapist, wrote this book and now makes her living teaching seminars and selling books. So she may be an expert in what caused HER injury, but does not appear to have any experience actually being a healthy therapist. If your school did not teach anything at all about body mechanics, technique adjustment, or hand safety, you may need this book - but if your school is even the least bit responsible in teaching these skills this book is just an introduction to the concepts. If you need advanced ideas, you won't find them here. Big print, low-quality photos, and self-congratulation seem to be the hallmarks of the book, and I'm glad I was able to leaf through it and not waste my money buying it.

Vital knowledge for the massage therapist/bodyworker,
By A Customer
This review is from: Save Your Hands!: Injury Prevention for Massage Therapists (Paperback)
Massage therapy schools can be lacking when it comes to teaching developing therapists how to prevent injuries as they develop their skills and clientele. This book gives valuable information, exercises, and instructions to fill in this vitally important area . I strongly recommend it for anyone who wishes to have a long and pain-free career in the massage therapy field.

As a first trimester massage therapy student, I am already seeing several of my classmates with wrist & hand injuries that could easily become serious. This book should be a required textbook for students beginning massage school. The information is easy to understand, and the exercises are quite effective. Thank you, Ms. Greene.

Don't let it scare you out of a massage career.,
This review is from: Save Your Hands! Injury Prevention for Massage Therapists (Paperback)
As a Licensed massage therapist of 8 years, specializing in deep tissue work, I went through a period of injury early in my career, and turned to Ms. Greene's book to get help and hope. Unfortunately, I came away more nervous than hopeful of being able to continue with many years in a massage career that I enjoyed so much. I learned from a colleague that Ms. Greene does not practice massage anymore, and does indeed make her living off of her book, and lecturing, as another reviewer commented. In her book she takes prevention to some extremes that a massage practitioner of any experience would scoff at. I found that my period of injury was a good time to research as much as I could from various sources and figure out what would help me. (And subsequently my clients) This is not to say that there isn't some good information to be gleened from this book, but the author has given up the practice of massage, just consider the source.

This book is an awesome guide to anyone studying the healing arts. It is a must-read book for how to extend your massage therapy career by saving one of the most valuable tools, your hands. It indeptly describes guides of prevention, exercises to strenghten hands, and tips every therapist needs to know. If massage therapy is your career, this is one book that should not be left out of your collection.

Elementary Knowledge,

This review is from: Save Your Hands! Injury Prevention for Massage Therapists (Paperback)
This book is a good start for someone that has no idea what to do to take care of their muscles and joints. As a martial artist, active in the gym (weights) and a therapeutic massage therapist, I found this book to be a waste of time. On the positive side, it is a quick read and I have reinforced, by second oppinion (the book), that I know more about taking care of myself than the average bear. In purchasing this book, I was hoping to find something that I didn't already know or something that I didn't think was common sense. If you have never played sports, never taken care of your body (stretching, contrast therapies, proper posture) then this book is for you.

Great information, much needed for students and prof's,
By A Customer
This review is from: Save Your Hands! Injury Prevention for Massage Therapists (Paperback)
My massage school offered very little information about injury prevention, so this book was an eye-opener for me. I think many students and even professionals don't take care of their own bodies and need the informaton that's in this book. Many of my fellow students became injured while they were in school and didn't know how to deal with it. I have many friends who are massage therapists, and when they have pain they don't know why or what to do about it. I have had pain in my arms several times, and this book helped me figure out why and get the right treatment to keep it from getting worse. I would recommend this book for any massage therapist.

A Must-Read for Bodyworkers!!!,
By Sunbow (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Save Your Hands! Injury Prevention for Massage Therapists (Paperback)
I purchased this book after I graduated from a fabulous massage program, while awaiting my license. In the first 10 minutes of reading it, I realized I should have had this information BEFORE I started school! The information is concise, practical, and so very important for those of us who heal with our hands. Now that I'm practicing, I refer to it every couple of weeks, especially when I start feeling any pain in my hands or wrists. It gently reminds me to check my own body mechanics, and that there are other ways to help others ~ without hurting myself.

Wish I had this guide in massage school,
This review is from: Save Your Hands! Injury Prevention for Massage Therapists (Paperback)
As an ambitious new massage therapist I started a bit too aggressively without thinking how proper ergonomics would affect my long term career goals. My neck, shoulders and hands were hurting after only 6 months of opening my practice. Now I follow the ergonomics and exercise advice in this book and am 100% pain free. This book not only helped me understand the mechanism of pain conditions, but how I could help myself...and my clients! This book should be required reading in massage school.

Must buy for massage therapist and bodyworkers,

This review is from: Save Your Hands! Injury Prevention for Massage Therapists (Paperback)
I'm a massage therapist and found this book very preventive. I helped me prevent chronic injuries of the hands associated with massage therapists. For this, I am very grateful to the author of this book. Remember your hands are extremely valuable as massage therapists. This book is a must buy for every massage student and massage therapist. I also highly recommend the following for the national boards which is sold on amazon:The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers Volume 1, Volume 2, Volume 3. Author: Patrick Leonardi These 3 books helped me pass the boards along with my tortora anatomy and physiology textbook. |
