Thanks to this fine book written by an expert we are provided with facts and guidelines, and even more important - a usable Glossary of the words that flow from the mouths of the real estate and lenders and economists that might as well be in another language. If the reader gets nothing more from this book (and that would be difficult to imagine!) than at least the very complete and easy to understand listing of all the terms that are floating around like dark clouds over every city these days, words and phrase such as Amortization, Affordability Analysis, APR, Assumption Clause/Fee/Mortgage, Callable Debt, Comparative Market Analysis, Dower, Encumbrance, Mortgage Modification, Rescission, Treasury Index etc etc. How many of these do we understand much less know how to incorporate into our vocabulary?
Cuevas teaches us how to stay a step ahead of the foreclosure threat and how to analyze and determine our own situation without simply responding to threats. This little book is very mighty - and VERY useful in learning how to keep your home. Grady Harp, November 11
In the past year, people in my life have lost their homes. Could they have kept their homes if they had read this book? I believe they would have at least had more options!
Ana Cuevas is not only an expert in her field, she is a compassionate human being who has discovered ways to avoid foreclosures. She carefully guides you each step of the way from teaching you about loan modification to how to write a hardship letter. She also helps you put together a modification request package and explains why you should avoid a forbearance agreement.
I thought this book had a very empowering message for home owners and I liked that there were affirmations after each chapter to keep things positive.
A third of this book is made up of a glossary of terms you will encounter when dealing with a lender.
So no matter what your situation I can highly recommend this book. If you know someone who is struggling to pay their mortgage or if you are in a similar situation know there is hope. This book really could help you save your home and sanity.

This author was ahead of the laws....NEW LAWS to protect came out a few months after book was written, you may want to have some details checked with a local realtor or loan officer because the novice might read righ past a TIP on how to stall and save your home.....its worth the money,,,only book I found that covered the mortgage laws and .....when money troubles come....what can you CREATE to make more money. while saving money and cutting costs...We added a roommate and get $500 that covers the power bills. GET CREATIVE **** you are not alone 5 million families affected.
