Marian Keyes lived in London for ten years before returning to her native Dublin. After receiving a law degree and studying accounting, she began writing short stories in 1993. She is the author of three previous novels--Watermelon, Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married, and Rachel's Holiday--all major bestsellers around the world.
Having read every book Marian Keyes has written, I can't tell you how excited I was when I read she had a new book coming out in February 2012. No matter that it wasn't going to be released in the U.S.A. for a quite a while. I decided to blow my book budget and order it from Amazon.uk and pay the crazy amount for shipping they were going to charge me. This is MARIAN KEYES after all.
I received the book about 10 days after it was released in the U.K. I was not disappointed. The cover is beautiful, the forward from Marian is unblinking honest and heartfelt, the recipes are written in easy to understand directions (except they are in metric so I have to convert or get a metric scale), there are notes from Marian on nearly every recipe, and the photos are gorgeous.
I'm so glad I didn't wait until this book came out in the U.S.A! I can't wait to make Fridge-Set Honeycomb Cheesecake. Yum.
I'm not a reader of romance novels but I bought this book for the beautiful recipes. As an added bonus, there was a great story behind the book too that was very touching and heart-rending. Marian Keyes sense of fun that makes her novels bestsellers makes this cookbook a really fun collection of recipes to have in your home, and really easy to pick up and make a cake from when you're having tea party or friends around. It's a very down-to-earth and encouraging book for those new to cake-making, and refreshingly real for those who already love baking.
