Dannion Brinkley's book, Saved By The Light" is a truly, incredible, life-transforming book. I would say that after reading this book, which by the way, I could not put down until I finished it, Dannion was indeed "saved by the light". What I found so fascinating was the turn-around - the total turn around of his life. I had heard about life reviews before, but the impact for me, was that not only do we get to review our life, but also get to review how the other person felt whom we were hurting, whether it be conscious or unconscious. How our actions have a "ripple effect" in the world. I can only imagine what pain that must be. I was also especially moved by the messages that the book imparts, messages of God's love and kindness and forgiveness. These messages are old, yet they have spanned time and remain true today in the new millennium and I feel, are needed more than ever. Dannion's will to survive, and his peacefulness on accepting death helped me see that we are indeed much more than our human bodies. I commend him on his hospice work and sharing with us that death is a time for love and forgiveness. He shows us that death is a healing time for all families and that death is actually the beginning of our next life, our next adventure. Nothing to fear, but to embrace instead. The quote that most inspired me from the book from the Being of Light is, "What you are is the difference that God makes. And that difference is love." This is a book that needs to be passed on and on and on! I cannot recommend it enough. For those who have recently lost a love one, this book will provide immeasurable comfort for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Truth and a Must Read for EVERYONE, January 3, 2004

Dannion Brinkley brings astounding truth as to the actual death experience, and what it is like to come back to life. I know, as a dear family member went through the same experience back in the 1964.

What is most important about this book is that before Dannion's experience, he was one mean, angry guy who brought a lot of pain to a lot of people. When he describes his experiences in this book, he shares how he FELT the pain as he re-lived it during his life review. I read this book when it first came out, nearly a decade ago, and his words STILL stay with me.

No matter HOW much pain you have caused to others, no matter how many hurtful acts you have committed, ANYONE CAN turn it all around, once they turn themselves around.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone whose life has been at the bottom of the barrel, where they KNOW they have brought many people pain, and justified it all along.

This book is a testament to one Divine and wonderful being, Dannion Brinkley, and HOW he was able to turn his life around once he was brought to the light in respect to the life he lived prior to his death experience.

This book is an outstanding contribution to humanity. 10 Stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you're only going to buy one NDE book, get this one!, May 1, 2000
This is one of the most intelligently written NDE (near death experience) books I've ever read. (And I've read a few...) Dannion's story was an amazing one and he told it very well.

It is a compelling book - I found myself devouring the book cover to cover and then perusing it a second time.

One of the most interesting things I picked up on in this book is his experience of returning to this life.

He had been sent down to the morgue, with a sheet draped over his body, when he came back to life.

And he talked about the moment of decision - whether to go back or to remain in the next life - and once that decision was made, his body stirred and he was alive again.

This (to me) was a wonderful proof that there is no power in the body. It is not the body that makes decisions about life. Dannion's body was dead but once he decided to return to (this) life, the body was restored.

The human scene shifted to correspond with the spiritual reality and the spiritual decisions.

Read the book and draw your own inspirations, revelations and education. It was a great read and a book with much depth.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Fav. NDE Books- I've Been There Too, December 31, 2003
One day in 1995 I died, and had a NDE. Ever since then, I've been reading everything I can on the subject. According to most stories I've read, I had an unusual one, not going down a tunnel, but experiencing many interesting phenomena all the same. It seems to me that there are some NDE books and magazine articles that are just hype, and published just to give recognition. I have found, through my many years and multitudes of books on the subject, that there is an underlining truth and spirit that pervades the true experiences. So, I have compiled a list of my best reads for NDE books - ones that I consider genuine and adding validating light to the personal NDE experience. I have left out compilations, these are personal narratives. I hope you enjoy them too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Profoundly life-changing, January 19, 2004
By
This is a book that I read over and over again, each time learning something new. It has helped me become more compassionate, less judgmental, and more confident in both my relationship with God and in a beautiful afterlife. Dannion died and came back twice ... and the kind of life review he experienced each time reveals a great deal about the consequences (both positive and negative) of our actions here on Earth. When Dannion hurt others, he felt their pain during his Heavenly life review. When he helped others -- like the time he treated a group of homeless women to dinner -- he felt how good they felt. "The meal cost me more than a hundred dollars," he recounts, "but the price was nothing compared to the joy of reliving it." I highly recommend both this book and Dannion Brinkley's second book, At Peace In The Light.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shed light on a new meaning of life., December 2, 1999
By
I had received this book from my Physics teacher. It had taken me 2 years to actually start reading this book. I had no idea what impact it would have made on me then.

I am currently 18 years of age as I am writing this, and this book has changed the way I approach life and think about others. Subjects such as death, hope, and forgivness give this book a nice mood throughout its journey.

It begins with Dannion, the author, talking on the telephone with one of his business parnters. He gets struck by lighting and enters a mysterious spirtual realm. At first, he does not know where he is, or whether the lightning bolt has killed him. The fact finally comes to him when he his hovering over his fried body, that he is in another place. He embarks on a colorful journey to better his not-so-good past life. The spiritual worlds that he travels about are very visually descriptive and delightful. He finally gets sent back to earth, telling everyone about his near death experience and begins his mission.

I think is an excellent book for all ages. It will change you for the better, and you will appreciate it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting But Not Convincing, June 12, 2000
The one thing that was especially interesting about this book was that the man who claims to have suffered through two near death experiences (the first due to a lighting strike and second due to heart failure) was never a particularly religious man -- in fact one might say that he was smoething of an atheist. This makes it somewhat easier to believe that he was not maing up his story as the result of his own previously-held religious ideas. Also, the author claims to have been quite a bda person -- supposedly a bloke who served as an assassin in Laos during the Vietnam War and someone who was constantly getting into fights (although the number he gives -- about 6000 fistfights in 7 years -- seems rather improbable) and in general never gave an ounce of consideration to anyone other than himself. His NDE was unusually detailed. The one thing seen here that is usually not reported in other NDE accounts was his being allowed to see 117 events in "heaven" which had not taken place yet. Oddly enough, the author says that 95 of these precognitive events had already taken place, but the examples that he gave in the book were mostly those that didn't develop (such as the economic ruin of the U.S. by the year 2000 and the earthquakes that were to destroy America or the computer chips (the "mark of the beat" according to Lindsey) that we were all supposed to have inserted underneath our skin by now, for example). This causes one to doubt what he says he experienced as something other than his imagination. he goes on to say how he was instructed by the spirits to build "centers" of relaxation for the people of the earth (which sounds strangely reminiscent of some UFO abduction stories) and after coming back to earth, that he continued to recieve instruction from the spirits in his dreams. Also, he claims to have been made powerfully psychic by the NDE that he experienced, something which although it may be true, makes his account harder to believe (especially when added to all the other far-fetched aspects of his NDE). This makes for an interesting read for anybody who is intrigued by near-death studies, but it still poses a number of problems that other reports do not (such as the spirits being so clearly wrong about so many things). All in all, interesting, but not convincing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spiritually uplifting, despite bad predictions, July 27, 2000
One of the most moving, compelling accounts of the Near-Death-Experience that I know of, Brinkley's story is a powerful antidote to hopelessness and nihilism, and in particular to fear of eternal damnation instilled by the Christian religion. His experience shows that death is not to be feared. It is neither the end of existence, nor is it a time of divine punishment. But most importantly, it teaches us the importance of love. After death, neither money, nor power or status count, only how much love, compassion and kindness we have given others.

Brinkley's story, endorsed by the leading NDE researcher, Raymond Moody, is highly credible, even though most of his predictions turn out to have been inaccurate. For those who would take this as evidence that Brinkley is a fraud, two observations are in order:

1. This work is not primarily about PSI ability. It is about a profound, life-changing spiritual experience.

2. As part of that experience, Brinkley was shown a probable future that was likely to happen if he didn't change his ways. But he changed, and the world changed with him. That's the point of a negative prediction: to motivate personal change for the better.

This book will of course not impress those who are looking for scientific proof, but for the others, it will be inspiring and spiritually enlightening.

4.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Detailed & Interesting Account of a NDE, January 16, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I just finished reading this book, and I must say that it was extremely interesting. The author, Dannion Brinkley, gets struck by lightning while talking on the telephone and is clinically dead for 28 minutes! His account of what follows his "death" is absolutely amazing. It is the most detailed near death experience account that I have read, and even Dr. Raymond Moody, a Ph.D & M.D. and authority on the subject, says the same.

This book is very insightful if you are interested in studying accounts of near death experiences (NDEs). Brinkley's vivid retelling of what he witnessed is astounding -- detailed "interactions" with "beings of light" (as detailed as I've read, anyway), a visit to a crystal city of light, revelations he received about the future that really occurred (Gulf War, fall of USSR...), and much more...He even tells of "psychic powers" he had upon his return, which are very interesting. I'm not into psychics and all, but this stuff he can do is supposedly documented and "verifiable". Nevertheless, what he claims is very interesting and he seems to be truthful.

All in all, a very interesting, detailed, and compelling account of a NDE. Brinkley's relationship with Dr. Moody lends a great deal of credence to a fantastic, almost unbelieveable story.

Definitely worth reading, but for those of you who have not read about NDEs prior to stumbling upon this book, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING DR. RAYMOND MOODY'S STUDIES FIRST, which are very scientific and objective studies of NDEs (esp. "Life After Life" and "Reflections on Life After Life", etc). This book makes a good case study after you have read Moody's works...

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a truly enlightning book!, February 19, 2000
Both my husband and I read Saved by the Light by Danion Brinkley, and we want to share with everyone who ever reads our review that this book is a milestone in the spiritual growth of humankind! It reaveals the purpose of everyone's life's mission, - to Love and help everyone on Earth. Whaterver anyone's previous life experiences were, they are probably a combination of mistakes and victories, happiness and grief, joys and tears - we all gain only from loving and caring for each other. It was great to learn that everyone who is born on our Mother Earth is a Mighty Spiritual Being who by one's own willpower can make a positive change not only in one's own life, but also in the lives of people on Earth. We are here on Earth with a great Mission of Love, and our every action, every word, every thought resonate their meaning and put it to practice. After having read Saved by the Light both of us found the strength to cope with the challenges of our lives, and we came to the realisation of what our missions on Earth are. Thank you very much Danion for the fantastic experience that we had when reading your book!
