Saveur Answers the Question "What is Authentic American Cooking?"...Pretty Much Everything,
By TN Cookbook Junkie (Germatown, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saveur Cooks Authentic American: Celebrating the Recipes and Diverse Traditions of Our Rich Heritage (Paperback)
I received this cookbook as a Christmas present years ago and use it at least once a week. Saveur's approach to food and homecooking is a breath of fresh air. (I love their magazine, too!) The little sidebars next to the recipes are very entertaining. The recipes turn out as beautifully as the gorgeous photographs. My favorite recipes from this book are Georgene's Fluffy Rolls (warning: reduce the amount of sugar unless you love super sweet bread), the Hazelnut Brownies, the Fried Catfish with Tartar Sauce, the Blueberry Pie, Swedish Coffee Bread, the Sweet Potato Casserole...I could go on and on. This book has two of my favorite things - great reading and great eating!
