Ruth Gilmore has been giving children's sermons from the age of eight. In order to pass the time during lengthy sermons, she invented object lessons and stories that would communicate the message, to her own mind, more clearly and creatively. At her pastor's urging, she began to give children's sermons which helped to explain the Bible readings for each Sunday. Later, when she had children of her own, she continued to give weekly children's sermons. Her congregation in California first asked her for print-outs of the messages, then for booklets of a year's worth of sermons, and then finally urged her to get the children's sermons published. Augsburg/Fortress published the first editions, and now the digital Kindle versions are becoming available. The newer digital versions will make it even easier to find specific sermons for a particular subject or Bible verse.
Ruth currently resides in Tokyo, Japan, where she works as the Elementary School librarian at an international school.
