I thoroughly enjoyed SAVING DESTINY, a dark and sexy adventure about a crystal healer and the demon blackmailed into kidnapping her. I want to read more paranormals from Pat White!

This was my favorite of the series, due to the strong characters. Both the hero and heroine grow a lot through the story and the way they change is fascinating. Highly recommended.

superb romantic fantasy,
This review is from: Saving Destiny (Silhouette Nocturne) (Mass Market Paperback)
In England, the Cadre captures Kadenshar and to his shame forces the demon warrior to journey to the United States to bring to them American research scientist Destiny Rue. Kadenshar, who is afraid of nothing and is the best at tempting mortals to sin, fears this female; he believes she is the legendary healer Crystal Goddess, whose peacemaking activities will annihilate his species.
Destiny fears she is going insane like others of her family as she starts hearing voices. When she meets businessman Kade Sharpe she is attracted to the handsome hunk who surprises her by displaying interest in her work. He also tells her about the Crystal Goddess while suddenly needing to keep her safe by protecting her from his demonic brothers trying to kill her before she attains her destiny, which would, as an unintended consequence, eradicate their race. This superb romantic fantasy works because of the believable metamorphosis of the male lead from cold blooded Kadenshar the demon to warm blooded in love Kade the protector. Destiny also changes due Kade's entry into her life as she finds she has someone to lean on and trust while coping with a fate that makes insanity seem welcome. Pat White delivers with the thrilling SAVING DESTINY. Harriet Klausner

Saving Destiny by Pat White
Silhouette Nocturne #27 - Nov 2007 Dark Enchantments Book 4 of 4 The hallucinations and voices that torment her mind create a living nightmare for Destiny Rue. It was predicted that her mother's insanity would claim her too before she turned 30, and Dee's darkest fears seemed to be coming true. Especially when she meets businessman Kade Sharpe and strange things begin to happen; things that only an insane person would believe in. Kade is an Ash Demon Warrior. His race had been created from the ashes of Nero's burning. They are the most highly evolved of the demon world being part mortal. Kade is in the mortal realm to save his brother who was wounded by the P-Cell demon hunters and then saved by the Cadre specialists in a crystal. The Cadre demand that Kade help them bring Destiny to their sanctuary where they will teach her that she is the Crystal Goddess, the great healer. Once Dee reaches her potential, she will have the healing powers like no other, and will be able to heal Kade's brother while he's captured within the Cadre's crystal. Kade has made his own pact with the demon world, that once his brother is healed and released he will turn over Destiny to the dark realm. The more time he spends with Des the stronger their bond. And what of the prophesy, that the Crystal Goddess will collaborate and mate with a great Ash Warrior and balance and peace will come to both realms; the dark and the mortal. Another awesome read! I couldn't put this one down! I love Pat White's tortured hero; though from the dark realm he strived always for honour and integrity. Destiny seemed very weak at the beginning of the book; I loved how she evolved and grew in confidence and self-awareness. Though not as spicy as the others in this series, there a few really hot scenes. This was a very good read, about healing and forgiveness, and love and honour, and of course that on going battle of good over evil. I do so hope there will be other stories to come in the Dark Enchantment series. This was a really badly written book. The plot was okay, the characters were fine (except Adam; he was too cliche). But the way this was written was just...bad. Emotions were not here. There were thoughts and action, but no passion or feelings. It was hard to figure out what was even going on. It was also hard to get into the story because it was so boring. Without passion, romantic or not, this book fell flat. I couldn't even finish it. Don't bother with this one.

Saving Destiny (Silhouette Nocturne Series)
Saving Destiny by Pat White is final story in the Dark Enchantments series. I found it to be a very enjoyable and interesting read, the characters were likable and mostly believable. I did think that the character of Destiny went through a lot of personality changes in a very short time as she changed from being a scared and timid girl into a strong, confident , and powerful woman. But then again the book was only 280 pages long, and the author did a good job of explaining everything in a satisfactory manner. KN reviewer for kaseysview.blogspot.com

3.5 stars - Final book of the Dark Enchment collaboration,

Saving Destiny was a pleasant enough read but I would have enjoyed this book more if I had read it before Night Mischief (Silhouette Nocturne). Both books in the Dark Enchantment collaboration were variations on the same theme- demon hero out to seduce the heroine for some nefarious purpose, but instead being himself caught in the sticky web of love - but, since Night Mischief did it so much better, this felt sort of like a retread. Admittedly, Saving Destiny was a bit different in that the heroine Destiny was going through her own transition at the same time as the demon Kade is trying to convince himself that demons don't love and he's just protecting her to save his brother. Over the course of the story Destiny develops from a weak human on the verge of insanity into a powerful goddess/healer destined to keep the balance between the demon and human world and the catalyst is the power of love.
Though this is supposed to be the final story of the Dark Enchantment collaboration, there really were enough side characters that were interesting enough to deserve their own books, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more Dark Enchantment books pop up the the future. The collaboration was a fun idea, and other than sharing the same world, and a few characters from other books making short appearances- Mersey from Familiar Stranger (Silhouette Nocturne) had a small role here - the books were totally standalone so they can be read in any order. If you've already read the others, you will probably want to read this one too. If you haven't, this one was the weakest of the bunch so don't let it put you off from reading the others or you'll miss out.

So, so, silly,

I haven't read a romance where the characters are too dumb to live in a long time. Neither of the leads is like that for the entirety of the novel but they go through fits and startles where even Paranormal Darwin should have struck them down.
Bad, bad, science. The author needed to at least consult a high school biology teacher before trying to cobble together Dee's job in the begining. Neurotransmitters are chemicals in the brain and cannot be numbed. Migraines, at least to all of the research I've been exposed to, are caused by electrical problems in the brain and not too much dopamine. Characters pull vital information out of nowhere. There's no mention of so and so heard/read/learned that there's a mutated form of X disease out there, they just know. Kadenshar was a likable enough person, with his internal struggles being the only reason I followed this one through to the end, even with some too dumb to live moments. Everyone else was ulitmately very forgettable. |
