Philip Corts has a special gift that his best friend Jake Holdridge won't let him ignore--he can "track" lost objects, people, and even past lives with his mind. 5.0 out of 5 stars a pragmatic approach to the paranormal, July 12, 2004
By
donna lash (Egg Harbor, WI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saving Jake (Paperback)
"Saving Jake" is about a teenager's experience with the non-physical world, and how he is asked to use this ability, at the risk of his own life, to save his friend's life. Author Ophelia Julien defly explores not only the angst of a teenage boy finding himself, but also the greater challenge of how does a teenage boy with physic ability live a meaningful life. Her approach to the paranormal is pragmatic. Though written for the young adult reader, the book is a read for all who are intrigued or curious about experience beyond the linear logic of a rational world. I highly recommend it.

Ms. Julien's book captivated me from the start. It has a number of themes running through the book which keep you interested. I enjoyed it as an adult reader and have donated a copy to our local library because of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh, creative book - loved it!, April 2, 2010

This review is from: Saving Jake (Paperback)
I had heard of Ophelia's book years ago when it was first published and entirely failed to pick up a copy - what a mistake. This is a great supernatural read and Ms. Julien's creative talents bring together a fresh, believable story as well as telling of a great friendship between teen friends and the sacrifices made for true friendship. The book was incredibly planned, funny, and true to human experience and emotion. I was not previously a paranormal genre reader, but Ms. Julien's book has opened me to another great genre and I look for many more great works from Ophelia in the future. This book is a great value for such a great read - enjoy!
