You will definitely need the actual book to use the workbooks. My fiance and I have been working through the lessons and are about halfway through the workbooks. The best thing about the exercises is that there are so many things about my future wife that I didn't know, especially in regards to how she thinks and feels about certain aspects of life. We are becoming closer as we're beginning to understand each other at a deeper level. I'm learning more about how women communicate and how they really aren't able to come to grips with exactly how we operate either. The exercises vary from childhood influences to budgeting to love languages. We look forward to each time we work through the lessons. I highly recommend them for any couple preparing for marriage.

My husband and I did the Saving Your Marriage Before it Starts course with our pastor for pre-marital counciling, and I would recommend it to any couple preparing for marriage. It was easy and fun, and it taught us SO much. It was a real bonding experience, and it truly helped us be a much better husband and wife.

My wife and I read through the books and the study guide while we were engaged. SOOOOOO good!! Even if you aren't a Christian, the principles in communication are amazingly helpful. For us, as believers, perhaps even more so.

I highly recommend it with the study guide. The exercises are really good to help you understand how the other person thinks, what's important to them, and to get a head start - from a married perspective anyway - on who the other person is.

I haven't been married that long, but ask your other married friends - you may think you know all about the other person before you get married, but you learn a ton more once you're married. You also learn a lot about yourself.

The reason this book and study guide are so good is they help you think through things & issues that are common in marriage, common differences between men and women, etc.

And there are some great tools, like "Temperature Check". The book/guide go into more detail, but it provides a really beneficial communication tool to share things you like, don't like, don't understand, or would like to see changed.

I'm making all of my future kids go through when they get engaged.

I can't recommend it highly enough! If you're getting married, get it. If you are married and know you could use some communication help, get it.

I require every couple who invite me to perform their wedding ceremony to read the Parrotts book. In 25 years of pastoral ministry this is the best resource I've found for premarital counseling. I have also gone through the book with several couples who are already married and experiencing challenges in their relationship. I would highly recommend this book to any couple who is considering marriage, engaged, or recently married--or even couples who have been married for years. The practical advice is effective and Drs.Parrot illuminate issues that are vitally important to consider when building or fortifying a marriage yet that are often overlooked in favor of wedding preparation. Very helpful, honest and eye-opening.

The activities in this book are really great, especially since we were long distance and we both had a workbook of our own. It's very easy to complete an activity a day and then have something to share with your partner over the phone. It made being a couple countries away much less difficult and it only made the relationship stronger through the activities this book provides. It was also delivered on time, and it was in good condition. The only thing that I wasn't satisfied with was that they marketed it as "Like New" but it had a few questions that had already been answered in pen.

I just began using the Parrott's materials, Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts, for engaged couples in our premarital education program and, so far, the response has been positive. Couples affirm that it is helpful. One young man said he has begun to think more about what marriage means and what it will entail. He also has been more attentive to other couples and how they relate to each other. I am pleased with the response.

this book offers great insight to relationships that often get overlooked. while reading you see how your relationship is evolving and what to expect in the years to come.

This is a great tool for getting the communication going to help the partners understand each other.

Although some of the advice is common sense for many couples (i.e. your problems don't go away when you get married), i think that overall it's useful for couples to discuss their different emotions and to get people communicating. and, let's face it, we all know at least one couple who needs to be told that problems in the relationship don't go away with marriage.
