Chopp notes that her book began in response to an invitation to write on "emergent trends in theological education." To her credit, she discovered that she could not write from this "universal perspective," so she turned to a particular analysis from the perspective of a particular group within theological education. The result is an eminently readable reflection on the feminist practices of theological education in which Chopp has been involved for the past 20 years. The particularity of the book is one of its greatest virtues, and Chopp succeeds in each of the purposes she sets for herself--to provide a useful resource for women and men involved in feminist practices of theological education, to invite a "second generation" of research sensitive to the contextuality of theological education, and to construct a method with which to identify and reflect on feminist practices of theological education. The practice of theological reflection on pedagogy in Saving Work is exemplary, and the book will serve as both inspiration and practical guide to "resident aliens" in theological education engaged in the creation of "partial visions of home with a table to which all are readily and eagerly invited."
