Modern worship for youth and adults,
By JPBronsin (Tampa FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Savior Lives (Audio CD)
Having liked Desperation Band, and also a fan of the work from Jared Anderson and Jon Egan, I bought this album with some anticipation. On most levels, the worship did not disappoint -- it's a solid, clean album that steers away from the Desperation Band's energetic style and utilizes a more adult approach, though the youth will also enjoy what's offered.
Nothing is quite original on this album but it still moves the soul, which is often enough for any worship project. "Endlessly" makes its way onto this album in a much more laid back fashion, and "Promises" retains its pop song feel. "Here In Your Presence" is another noteworthy song in the line of increasingly popular 3/4 rock ballads; it runs over eleven minutes and ends on a swelling repetition of the bridge. "Live to Worship" is perhaps the album's strongest song -- a simple worship ballad that sounds like it's been done, but its familiarity and melodic strength are to its advantage. The album could've used a few more fast songs, and strangely, I noticed the drummer simply did not know how to accentuate any of the music. It seemed as though the drummer had never heard any of the songs before and decided to go with the easiest beat possible, which takes away from the dynamics and actually hurts the album's energy. If you make side-by-side comparisons of "Endlessly" and "Promises" with their original counterparts, the difference is too obvious to ignore. Still, the postproduction work with strings and keyboards really polishes the live performances without being distracting. Bottom line -- Apart from its lack of originality and a decent drummer, this album is still worth buying because it's certainly better than a lot of worship out there. If you're looking for some new songs for your praise team at church, give this one a try.

I really enjoy this music from NLW. Awesome band, music, and content. I downloaded the cd from itunes which gave me the music sheet with it. So cool! As part of my church's praise and worship team, it is great to listen to music that can be incorporated in to congregational praise and worship services. Good music!
