The best stripper for good wood.,

Have just finished stripping the last of the quarter-sawn golden oak paneling in my 105 year old house. I used about 5 different "safer" strippers from Lowe's and various hardware stores because I was unable to find this locally. Finally broke down and ordered this online at amazon. The other strippers did the job as well but left the wood in much worse shape, gouged by the tools or discolored. With this stripper and my woodwork (painted over original varnish) my method has been to heat strip the paint, then apply this, scrape off with putty knife and finer tools where necessary, then use a dry green scrubby (dollar store), then go over it with a scrubby dipped in isopropyl alcohol and then use paper towels with the alcohol (91%) and make sure the residue is gone. The savogran leaves the color intact, the grain is not raised, and only minor sanding is needed. The patina is still there. This smells a little worse than some of the other N-Methylpyrrolidone based strippers, and I use a respirator for this and the alcohol, but it's much safer than methylene chloride. It works in about 20 minutes but can be kept left for much longer if covered with a good plastic wrap. I think it's the best of all the greener strippers.

Amazing Stuff,

I used this product to take a varnish off of one of my old .22's. I used a paintbrush to put it on (a pretty thick coat), waited 30 minutes, and then used a brillo pad to scrub it off. It worked really good and i would highly recommend this product.
