5.0 out of 5 stars Luxurious, with Heavenly Scent!
This fragrant line of "Savon de Marseille" is sheer bliss! I bought the Lavendar and the Rose. Each has a wonderful fragrance that permeates the senses, and provides for a very satisfying and luxurious bath and shower experience. The moisturizing qualities of these pure "Vegetable Oil" base soaps are combined with heavenly fragrance. Not the cheap smell of ordinary...

2.0 out of 5 stars Huge Block of Soap, Crumbled :-(
I bought two of these soaps, the verbena (which smells lovely) & the orange one (nothin special...). I had resigned myself to using one as a mantel splash of color but tonight I read the reviews and one said they are easy to cut. So here I am with a huge knife in the kitchen and left with one misshapen hunk o f crumbly soap. It is horrible soap. Although I recommend the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Luxurious, with Heavenly Scent!, April 6, 2007
This fragrant line of "Savon de Marseille" is sheer bliss! I bought the Lavendar and the Rose. Each has a wonderful fragrance that permeates the senses, and provides for a very satisfying and luxurious bath and shower experience. The moisturizing qualities of these pure "Vegetable Oil" base soaps are combined with heavenly fragrance. Not the cheap smell of ordinary lavendar and rose scents often found in bath products; but rather, the intoxicating aroma of "Lavendar Flowers" growing in a field, or the unmistakable delicate yet rich perfume of "Rosa Damascena", the Old Damask Rose. Service provided by French Soaps (the vendor) is also excellent! Products arrive fresh, well packaged, and with lightning speed.

4.0 out of 5 stars One Block Last 3 Months or More -Mild Fragrance-Verbena, December 20, 2007
By
Jhershierra (Houston, Texas United States 77056) - See all my reviews
One block will last 3 mths or longer. This soap was not real fragrant, DOUX soaps are better for fabulous scent that last a long time. Savon De Marseille soaps are made according to strict ancient methods. A blend of olive oil, vegetable oil, alkaline ash, sea plants, fragrance and sea water. Once the blocks are cut they are left to dry outside in the sun.

This soap arrived wrapped in just some loose paper. It is not sealed. Doux French soaps are infused with fragrance and not exposed to air drying to dissipate the scent. They are then shrinked wrapped to preserve the fragrance which is powerful. I gave this Marseille Verbena a 4 star for this reason...lack of potent fragrance.

However everything else about this soap is really good.
How many bars of soap last for months? Because of the olive oil it does not dry out your skin. Its purity makes it great for sensitive skin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marseille Soap is Outstanding, January 15, 2007
I bought the lavender Savon de Marseille soap for my daughter as a gift. She LOVES it and says she is never going to use anything but this soap for the rest of her life....suffice it to say, my gift was a huge hit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Each beautiful block is a Masterpiece., March 19, 2008
This isn't just a soap. It's a pure formation of flowers and fragrance that you never want to be without. The block shape reminds one of its pedigree: the famous, centuries-old "Savon de Marseille" French soaps. But then this company (called "French Soaps" simply enough) started adding crushed lavender flowers from the countryside of southern France along with pure lavender fragrance. The result is the most beautiful, rustic, heavenly soap on the planet. As the flowers lightly exfoliate, the olive and palm oils moisturize and nourish. I buy 10 at a time and share them with my closest friends. By the way the verbena and rose petal varieties are just as wonderful. I haven't yet tried the orange flower (might just order them today!).

4.0 out of 5 stars Savon de Marseille Soap, November 2, 2009

This soap is pretty good. It lathers well for a good cleaning and keeps the skin moisturized. One thing I really noticed about it is that it rinsed completely off the skin. Some soaps can leave the skin itchy feeling. This soap did not do this at all.

This soap smells like verbena - can be a bit over powering but the soap is great for sensitive skin. Makes my bathroom smell great.

5.0 out of 5 stars addicted to it, July 31, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
i didn't think i'd like the square at first, but it is perfect in the shower as it doesn't slide out of your hand so easily-once i tried a bar of this- i was addicted to it. i am addicted to this soap. fair warning to anyone who tries it- you may never again buy any other kind of soap and might go into withdrawal and depression if you should happen to run out or be away from home and didn't take it with you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Soap Ever! <Rose>, April 17, 2009

I have decided that this is my new 'must have' soap. I purchased the Savon De Marseille in Rose and the scent is heavenly (not at all like the 'rose scented' bath products you might find in cheap holiday gift baskets).

Bathing with a big block of soap is a little awkward and clumsy but I found that if I swipe it a few times on my shower pouf, it creates a nice thick lather with very little product (bye bye shower gels). Skin feels clean, not dry, tight or itchy. In my opinion, the only con was that this soap had such a 'strong' scent out of the box (I think it could be 'headache inducing' for certain individuals). I was happy to find that the fragrance was toned down significantly after using it in the shower.

P.S. There is a fifth scent not listed on Amazon called 'Grape Vine', but you can find it by going directly to the Frenchsoaps website. I wish I had gone to their site prior to making my purchase because I would have taken advantage of their special pricing to purchase all 5 varieties (then I'd know which ones are my favorite, though I am very happy with the Rose). Also, don't throw out your 'Order Receipt' without checking the bottom right hand corner of the printout. Mine came with a promotion code for Free Shipping with my next order over $45.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm hooked, September 13, 2010
This review is from: Savon de Marseille with Crushed Local Flowers 300g-Lavender (Misc.)
I got tired of cleaning soap scum off of sinks and tubs from traditional American deoderant soaps. I tried a non-Savon de Marseille brand of olive oil soap from Amazon which ended up smelling wierd and feeling slimy; though the label said that it was only made with olive oil and sea salt, one of my daughters broke out after we started using it and quit breaking out when she quit.

Then I found these Savon de Marseille French soaps. I like the pure ingredients, which do not result in huge amounts of scum on the tub after use and which rinse well off of the hands and which do not dry the hands even after frequent handwashings. I like the flowers in them, which do really aid in exfoliation. I am allergic to most perfumes, but the scent from my two favorites--rose and orange--come from the real flower and thus do not set off my allergies.

Some people complain about the cube shape. We've found appropriate soap dishes and gotten used to the shape. Don't cut the cubes! Just use them! They wear down soon enough. And the cubes last a LONG time, even as much as I wash my hands. Hey, my 20-year-old son has never complained since I introduced these soaps, and he WOULD complain if he didn't think they were OK.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great creamy fresh scented soap, May 27, 2008
By

I got the Savon de Marseille 300g Orange flower soap. It seemed like a small square of soap but it lasted for a while. Be careful when cutting into smaller blocks as it is very crumbly. The soap smelled fresh and the foaming action was very creamy. It rinsed off well and left my skin feeling very clean yet not dry. I would recommend this to anyone.
