This is the third book in the Alien Huntress series and I really did not like it all that much. Compared with the previous two books this one definitely fell solidly into the romance category; way too much page space was given to the main characters needing each other, owning each other, and forgetting what they were doing because they weren't together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Notch Sci-fi Romance (A Grade), December 28, 2007
Gena Showalter has written a top notch novel with alien hunters, incredible action and really hot sex scenes that are smoldering. I was blown away by this third book in her Alien Huntress series and I recommend Savor Me Slowly to any fan of Showalter.
Jaxon Tremaine has himself in quite a bind. He has been taken and tortured by some alien enemies. They want answers only he can provide. He doesn't give in but when a new alien torturer comes, he is speechless. Mishka is unlike any alien or woman he has ever met.
Mishka is also on a mission, and that is to save Jaxon. But she doesn't do her part willingly. She is basically a slave and belongs to an evil man who can kill her without a second thought. She was made in a labatory and has more strength and power than any human, male or female has. Mishka is able to save Jaxon and hides him, but when Jaxon finally heals, he wants answers. Mishka is confused because she has never dealt with a man such as Jaxon. He makes her feel things she has never felt for in a man.
All too soon both Jaxon and Mishka act on their attraction, but what Jaxon doesn't know is that Mishka could end up being killed by the touch of a button.
Only one word comes to mind when reading a book by Gena Showalter and that is "WOW". I was lost in this world and most importantly the scorching hot love affair between Jason and his incredible love for Mishka. Showalter has written an incredible character in that of Mishka. She is so scarred and emotional cold because of her horrible past and is afraid of being touched and needing love because of the consequences. Jason is a true alpha hero who has a tender side but is very much protective of this intriguing woman.
Savor Me Slowly is a near to perfect book as your can get. Simply, buckle yourself in and brace yourself for a wild and sexy ride.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worthy Read, January 3, 2008
This was such a great book with only minor flaws. The interaction at the beginning of the book between Le'Ace and Jaxon kept we wanting more. The chemistry between was different, I can't quite put my finger on it. But I loved the two of them.

All the supporting characters are well written, the story line was good.

Though, I do have to admit the re-telling of the past book characters didn't do much for me. I felt like it got in the way, when the author felt the need to remind us what had happened to them previously. I'm all for reminiscing, but if it has nothing to do with the issue at hand, why rehash it? I enjoyed how the past characters took part in the story, but the rehashing was tedious. I found myself speed reading through it to get back to Jaxon and Le'Ace.

All in all, I loved the story. Worth reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Savor Me Slowly, March 21, 2008
Mishka Le'Ace is more and less than she seems. Mishka is part human, part machine, part alien and part animal, which has relegated her throughout her life as a freak experiment with the same value as a dangerous pet. Mishka was created and raised in a lab by scientists whose only goal was the creation of a perfect soldier, and even though Mishka has never been given the opportunity to experience the softer side of life, she yearns to experience love. When Mishka is sent to rescue Alien Investigation and Removal agent Jaxon Tremain, she is ordered to use all means necessary to obtain the information he has regarding a new alien threat. However, as Mishka spends time with Jaxon, she discovers that he evokes in her feelings she never thought she would have...

Jaxon Tremain is a man of cold control, a necessity since he has learned that his careless remarks or thoughtless actions can have disastrous results. When he meets Mishka, he has to admit that she might be strong enough to take his sarcasm and biting wit in stride - but she might not survive loving him. Now Jaxon must work to eliminate the aliens who threaten the survival of humans and, at the same time, fight those who control Mishka in order to gain her for himself.

But as the race to counter the alien threat heats up, Mishka may be forced to do things that will pit her desire to survive against her love for Jaxon. Which will she choose and will she be able to live with her choice?

Savor Me Slowly is wonderful addition to the Alien Huntress series that will have you, by turns, on the edge of your seat from the suspense or panting for breath as a result of Jaxon and Mishka's hot, hot, hot sexual exploits. Gena Showalter did an amazing job of building a world so enthralling that it will completely capture your imagination and will have you glued to your seat turning the pages. Jaxon, at first glance, seems like a cold and calculating Alpha male; however, as we get to know him better, Jaxon reveals himself to be a fiery lover and an unflinchingly loyal man. Mishka will capture your heart with her battle to be more than she was created to be and become a woman worthy of love - all the while fighting the man who controls her and the negative expectations of the people around her. Mishka and Jaxon make the perfect pair in this action-packed romance each with their vulnerabilities to overcome while keeping the pace of the action and delivering an ending that will leave your romantic heart well satisfied! Get yourself Savor Me Slowly - it's a wonderful book, perfect for escaping reality as it creates a world so far removed from our own that you will be engrossed in the book from start to finish!

2.0 out of 5 stars Characters are devoid of humor, few action scenes, lots of boring "needing", August 18, 2009
This is the third book in the Alien Huntress series and I really did not like it all that much. Compared with the previous two books this one definitely fell solidly into the romance category; way too much page space was given to the main characters needing each other, owning each other, and forgetting what they were doing because they weren't together.

In this book Mishka rescues Jaxon (he appeared as Mia Snow's co-worker in the first Alien Huntress novel) from torture by Otherworlders. Mishka is a Shadow, an assassin that kills Otherworlders to protect humans. She is supposed to get information from Jaxon about a virus that a new type of Otherworlder has brought to earth. The virus turns humans into flesh-eating monsters of a sort. Of course, as you might imagine, Mishka and Jaxon hit it off pretty well. This is complicated by the fact that Mishka is part machine and her actions are controlled by a computer chip in her brain.

The characters from the first two books join Mishka in this novel. Eden and Lucuis really do not play a large role. Mia Snow plays a slightly larger role than Eden or Lucius; but mainly she is a jerk like in the first book. It would be helpful to have read the back-stories on Mia and Eden, but not necessary to understand the plot of this book. The only ray of light in this book for me was Mishka's conversations with her internal computer; some of those were a tiny bit funny.

There were so many things that I didn't like about this book I am not sure where to start. First of all Mishka isn't a strong character. She is distracted and whiny and needy almost the whole book; the only place she shines is in her kick-butt fight scenes...but those are rare. Jaxon, who I actually liked in the first book, sheds all his personality in this book and turns into an obsessed/possessive character. In fact Jaxon is just about absent of any personality outside of his unexplainable obsession with Mishka. Why are Jaxon and Mishka attracted to each other? This remains a mystery to me; I guess we are just supposed to accept that they are.

Mishka and Jaxon's obession basically destroys what could be an interesting story line. In every scene they are apart (or together) Mishka and Jaxon can't work because they are thinking about each other. The whole thing was pretty intense (not in a good way), and pretty boring to read about for 300+ pages. The plot could have been very interesting with the new alien race and viruses and all. The action scenes also weren't as prevalent in this book and were constantly interrupted by Mishka or Jaxon worrying about each other. There were a lot of sex scenes and, while they were a bit more creative than in "Enslave Me Sweetly", they still weren't all that great. I also missed the humor in this book. Both Mishka and Jaxon were 100% devoid of any humor what-so-ever and that took a lot away from the story.

The main plotline with the virus is never well resolved either. I am assuming it continues in Book 4 "Seduce the Darkness" of this series. I own book 4 and will eventually read it, but for now enough is enough. There was so much mush and needing/owning each other junk in this book that I fear, if the next one follows in this book's path, my eyes will fall out my head from me rolling them so much. After reading the first three Alien Huntress books in a row these books are also starting to feel a bit formulaic to me. Maybe I just need to clear my head with something a bit more substantial before I read another one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Magnificent Read!, July 22, 2011
I recently purchased all five of the Alien Huntress stories, after having them recommended to me by several friends, and I love them!! After the first (which is the weakest of the group for me, so don't judge the whole series based on Awaken Me Darkley), the others are addictive. They remind me of the early Dark Hunter novels, or the first three Black Dagger Brotherhood books. The characters come alive for the reader, and the stories grab ahold of you and you'll find yourself reading them straight through.

'Savor Me slowly' is the third in the series, but you don't have to read the first two to really enjoy and love this one. This is the first written in third person (the first two are written in first person- not my favorite) and it introduces several new characters for future books.

Jaxon Tremain- agent for AIR (Alien Investigation and Removal) has been captured and is being tortured by aliens. Mishka Le'Ace is given the job of rescuing him, and since she can't refuse any mission given to her without punishment or death, she does it. Jaxon, usually reserved, polite, and a follow-the-rules kind of guy, shows his true colors, that of a kick-ass, strong-willed manly-man. Mishka, part human, part robot, part alien, wants to have something for herself, not something she has been ordered to do or forced to do, but something she chooses of her own free will, and she chooses Jaxon. They fight, they best each other, and the dialogue between these two is great! Their story is hilarious funny at times, and heart wrenching at others. Showalter is one of those authors that pulls you in, makes you get to know the characters, makes you a part of their world, so you feel their pain and cheer for them to win and cry when they hurt.

The ending feels a bit rushed, but for some reason the endings of all these books feels that way. I don't know if it's me, not wanting the story to end, or if it's that Showalter is better at telling a story than at wrapping one up.

Overall this is a great book if you like romance/scifi stories. It's filled with aliens, doorways to other worlds, kick-ass characters that don't baulk at killing when needed, some great love scenes, and very funny dialogue. Think Pretty Woman romance, crossed with Bruce Willis fighting, crossed with Indiana Jones adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Was Way Too Good to Savor Slowly!, October 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The previous book in this series, Enslave Me Sweetly, was so good; instead of waiting one trillion years for my library to order it, I immediately downloaded from Kindle. Now that's saying something, there are only a few authors who I consider buy worthy, as oppose to library worthy.

Mishka Le'Ace was built to be the ultimate ghost assassin, part machine, part animal, part alien and part human. Created and raised in a lab, enduring and surviving painful experiments to ensure she is near indestructible, even suffering with a chip in her head, which can be activated to kill her at anytime, should she fail, step out of line or try to escape her owners.

She is ordered to rescue or kill (depending on the situation) Jaxon Tremaine, an A.I.R. agent who has been kidnapped and tortured by a group of Delenseans aliens, bent on extracting classified information from Jaxon by any means necessary. The classified information that Jaxon alone possess is coveted by all sides (including Mishka) and make him a target. Little does Mishka know that this encounter with Jaxon is about to change the course of her life forever.

This series gets better and better with each installment. All the old players are back, Mia, Kyrin, Eden, Dallas, Devyn and Lucius. The story was filled with excitement, blazing hot sex scenes, plenty of action and clever ingenuity. I highly recommend this book and series to dark urban fantasy readers and look forward to reading the next book in the series Seduce the Darkness.

I also recommend:
Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, Book 1)
Dark Time: Mortal Path Book 1
Red-Headed Stepchild (Sabina Kane)
Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, Book 4)
Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, Book 1)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sci-fi storyline, July 14, 2008

(VINE VOICE)
What completely fasinates me with Showalter is how her different series are so completely DIFFERENT. I can usually recognize the writing of authors simply by reading a book, just like some people can recognize a bass player by listening to different music. Yet, the storyline and character traits that are found in this Alien Huntress series is completely different than what you would find in her Atlantis series, or Playing with Fire, or even the first book I read by her--The Pleasure Slave. Some of her books are so light and fun (Heart of the Dragon) and some are tense and sexy (Lords of the Underworld). All seem to have a at least a small sense of humor to it--which I like.

Savor Me Slowly was wonderfully done. I didn't remember alot about the previous two novels, but this one can easily be a stand alone novel. Previous characters are back. Mia is really annoying. I thought Showalter did a good job of reminding those of us who haven't read the previous two novels in quite some time about what the world is like and whom the threat to earth is. I liked the fact that even though Mishka and Jaxon were misunderstood, they still were not perfect and even a bit bloodthirsty. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series and I'm hoping this one will finally be about sexy Dallas.

Gena Showalter is one of the authors I keep a list on. This series is excellent and I have read most if not all of them. Paranormal genre. One of my favorite.
