Today, Mays is recognized as a respected authority on collectable cars, trucks, and tractors and the social phenomenon that surrounds their mystique. His book, Rambler Canada: The Little Company that Could was named "Best Read" by the Ontario Librarians Association in 2003.
A meticulous researcher, Mays writes with insight and humor. The award-winning author has 30 books to his credit, including six automotive histories. Classic American, a British magazine, recognized Mays as "Canadas most eminent auto historian" in 2004. His latest book, A Car and a Refrigerator Go to War: Nash-Kelvinator Serves in World War Two, will be published later in 2005.
Mays also writes more than 300 articles a year, contributing to V-8, Toy Cars & Models, Reader's Digest, OEM PowerSports, OEM Off-Highway, and Automobile Quarterly. His columns appear regularly in Old Autos --Canada's newspaper for the enthusiast and Old Cars. He is a staff writer for Vintage Truck, Antique Power, and Belt Pulley.
A member of the Society of Automobile Historians and the Historical Automobile Society of Canada, Mays lives in Windsor, Ontario, Canadas Motor City. A permanent collection of his works is housed at the University of Windsors Leddy Library in the James Mays Collection. Mays resides in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
