This is a wonderful guide to Digital Photography. Highly recommended for those who wish to improve their style and photographic talents using the authors tips and ingenious tricks with digital photography. Truly interesting and informative. I just wish that all books on digital photography were this good.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bland and boring
This book isn't really worth the money in my opinion. I recently purchased a Nikon D70s and was hoping that this book would show me the way into taking great pictures with a digital SLR camera. It didn't really offer me much. The book is probably very good for a person who has never taken a picture with an SLR camera. If you have any experience with the basics of...

5.0 out of 5 stars Written at Three Levels: User, Fan and Pro, May 12, 2005
This review is from: The Savvy Guide To Digital Photography (Paperback)
This book is a broad, generalized overview of everything there is to know about digital photography. It is intended for the person just getting started (re the chapter on selecting the camera), to doing funny things with the camera (that is, beyond point and shoot, things like aperture and exposure), there's guidance on things like lighting and composition that's not too different than similar chapters on film cameras. Of course, then there are several chapters on the digital darkroom and what you can do with various software packages and how to create special effects.

Each of these subjects are treated at three levels, what the authors call Savvy User, Savvy Fan, and Savvy Pro. It's quite a good overview. The Savvy User level information is pretty basic. The hints for the Pro quite good if the Pro isn't yet experienced with digitals.

This book has good advice and for digital camera users at three different levels, from beginner to advanced. What I really like about this book is that it covers just about everthing you need to know if you just starting out. It also has great advice on what equipment and techniques to use if you are a more advanced user.

You will never outgrow this comprehensive book. Beginner to expert will find this a worthwhile guide. My picures look much more professional. This book addresses some overlooked issues: budget issues. Happily this book does not give only extensive, complicated instructions. As I have mastered simple exercises, I go back to this book to upgrade my projects. I want to take the pictures, not spend all of my time reading about taking the pictures.

It didn't really offer me much. The book is probably very good for a person who has never taken a picture with an SLR camera. If you have any experience with the basics of photography, this is probably a waste of your money. The book is printed in black and white and simply doesn't compare to some of the other color books out there.
