The author provides just what is needed for the novice to select a URL, organize a navigable Web site, hiring the right team to create the site, and effective ways to promote it. Although the book is true to its title, I found the book to be really a primer, the contents of which most people could intuit. Pass on this one if you have other titles that cover Web basics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Right on Target - An excellent first-time and refresher read, July 31, 2001

James A. Taylor (Whittier, CA United States) - See all my reviews

Finally, someone has clearly outlined the critical steps to doing a web site right!

This book is now required reading for all our clients and employees. The author walks you through all of the essential steps to success like why your organization should have a web site and what it should do for you, how to select a reputable and affordable web design firm, what you MUST have prepared B4 you meet with the designer, how to help them to help you get the most out of your web development experience/dollar, how to select a web hosting option that is right for you and how to make your site a success after it is up on the web.

We have developed sites for Fortune 100 as well as mom-and-pop organizations over the past 8 years and in most cases, reading this book prior to development could have saved clients substantial time and money by helping them to target exactly what they need to do, how to do it and how to manage their web projects properly.

To be sure, this book was not written for programmers. The target market is average people who want to do the best job they can with the least amount of mistakes.

This book also contains plenty of material for organizations that make their living developing websites. Several of the chapters provide clear steps to help design firms to better help their clients...an excellent refresher.

This book is a must read for first-timers and an excellent supplemental tool for working web designers.
