AT LAST A TERRIFIC STANDARDIZED PRODUCT FOR THE PROSTATE: THAT'S AFFORDABLE,
By Heather L. Parisi "Robert and Heather Parisi" (St. Augustine, FL USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Saw Palmetto 160 mg 120 Sgels (Health and Beauty)
IN A NUTSHELL: EXCELLENT PRODUCT: PLUS ONE OF THE MORE ECONOMICAL CHOICES Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is treated effectively with standardized Saw Palmetto extract, which is what this product is -- 160 mg. 85-95% standardized for "Fatty Acids". Saw Palmetto is also used as an adjunct for Prostatitis (NBP), which is very similar to BPH and is usually something that occurs as a companion to chronic BPH. NUTRITIONAL THERAPIES THAT CAN BE COMBINED WITH SAW PALMETTO FOR BETTER RESULTS ACCORDING TO HEALTHNOTES - 2006: EXCELLENT DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE FOR THE USE OF: Beta-sitosterol, Rye Pollen extract, Saw palmetto DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE FOR THE USE OF: Amino acids (alanine, glutamic acid, glycine), Garlic (Kastamonu Garlic), Nettle, Pumpkin seeds, Pygeum ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE FOR THE USE OF: Copper, Flaxseed oil, Zinc MY PERSONAL COMBINATION [Robert uses this NOT me as this is FOR MEN ONLY] ---*- Saw Palmetto - Standardized [85%] - 160 mg. - 4x daily, ---*- Nettle Root [2] 500 mg. Raw Herb - 4x daily, ---*- Pygeum Standardized [13%Sterols] 100 mg. - 2-3x daily ---*- High Lignan Flax Oil - 1 tablespoon Daily ---*- Zinc Picolinate - 50 mg. 1x daily ---*- Pumpkin Seed - Certified Organic - 1 oz. - 1x daily ABOUT BRANDS: STANDARDIZED DOSE FIRST - BRAND SECOND - COST THIRD "Nature's Way Saw Palmetto, 160 mg. Standardized Extract Caps", is the gold standard for Saw Palmetto as is usually the case for Nature's Way products. However, it is expensive, as their bottle is really only a supply for 2 weeks @ $10.43 or about $21. per month. SWANSON HAS A REAL PRICE/QUALITY BREAKTHROUGH IN THIS PRODUCT: "Now", "Swanson" and "The Vitamin Shoppe" all offer similar products for much less, and are available via Amazon just as this product is. If you don't want to buy this on-line, Sam's Club offers about the best deal on this same dose in a standardized product. Right now they offer 350, 160 mg. soft-gels, standardized to 85% for about $11.! HOWEVER: This Swanson standardized product can't be overlooked and is actually in the same price range as Sam's Club, which is a bit of an achievement in itself! ABOUT THE VENDOR: The SWANSON offers pretty FAST & very RELIABLE SERVICE, with low prices on name brands and their own house brand too. In this instance however, their 'House Brand' is the best value and it is standardized which is essential for BPH. We have ordered products from Swanson's [often] in the past and without any problems. They also offer the lowest prices on the 'Nature's Way' brand too. [I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH ANY PRODUCT OR COMPANY]

Should You Use Saw Palmetto For Prostate Health?,
By
This review is from: Saw Palmetto 160 mg 120 Sgels (Health and Beauty)
Some scientific studies have shown that 320 mg daily of standardized saw palmetto extract (two of these) is effective in decreasing the symptoms of benign prostate hyperplasia(BPH). Other studies have shown that it is no more effective than a sugar pill. Overall, saw palmetto is thought to be safe and may be of some help for BPH.
In simple terms BPH means that the prostate is enlarged and slowing down the male urinary stream. The downside of taking saw palmetto is that it should not be an excuse for avoiding an exam and discussion with your doctor. For example an exam and blood test may be needed to rule out prostate cancer. So man up and see your doctor if you have urinary symptoms that might be BPH or might be cancer. That done you can consider whether to take saw palmetto. The best price is for the Swanson 320 mg standardized extract Saw Palmetto 320 Mg 60 Sgels at $4.49 for 60 caps of 320 mg extract.

Swanson supplements are all well-done and generally much cheaper than others with the same qualities. I've been using this for a few months, and I think it works. Time will tell.
