FIRST THOUGHT IS A DEAL BREAKER:

Saw Palmetto really needs to be standardized for at least 85% fatty acids. All of the research, that has indictated its use, to be beneficial, has come from saw palmetto standardized from 85-95% fatty acids. Doses of 3-8% fatty acids simply have little or no therapeutic value, just like Hawthorn that is not standardized. Also, like Hawthorn, Saw Palmetto is used for the treatment of a serious ailment, BPH [Benign prostatic hyperplasia], and therefore should be treated with precision and with the care of a qualified physician.

I should say that I purchase most of my herbal and supplemental products from Swanson, but not this one, and for the reasons stated above.

SAM'S CLUB actually carries a standardized product [85% fatty acids] and you get 350 softgels for under $11.! If price is not your biggest concern, consider either "Nature's Way" or "Now" standardized Saw Palmetto. Swanson sells the "Nature's Way" product and other vendors here at Amazon carry the "Now" brand.

In simple terms BPH means that the prostate is enlarged and slowing down the male urinary stream. The downside of taking saw palmetto is that it should not be an excuse for avoiding an exam and discussion with your doctor. For example an exam and blood test may be needed to rule out prostate cancer. So man up and see your doctor if you have urinary symptoms that might be BPH or might be cancer. That done you can consider whether to take saw palmetto.

Swanson is a very good product, especially when desiring a powder product. Most Swanson offerings are priced accordingly with market indicators notwithstanding a reluctance to increase their powder products. Saw palmetto is one such oversight, but I trust in the Swanson label despite the ineligibility of free shipping from Amazon in most instances.

I use Saw Palmetto for my enlarged prostate. I had been on the prescription medicine of FLOMAX for more than 10 years, but when I was having breathing problems, I found that the side effects of FLOMAX were that FLOMAX should not be given to anyone with CHF (Congestive Heart Failure).

I stopped taking the FLOMAX and have switched over to taking Saw Palmetto along with Maca and Nettle Root herbal vitamins from Swanson and I feel so much better now. It took a few months to clear up the problems from the FLOMAX, and now I have a much more active life and my breathing problems are clearing up as well.

I am using Clear Lungs to help me clear up the congestion now and it does a real good job as well.
