This is an intimate look at the wolf, quite possibly one of the most misunderstood creatures on Earth. So often depicted as evil in lore and legend, this book shows another side of this beautiful animal. Instead of the red-eyed, drooling monster of myth, we see the well-organized society present in a wolf pack, full of nurture and play. The qualities of the wolf that seemed to prove its place in history are shown instead to be merely the means for its survival. The expressive photographs and rich text work well to dispel the myth of the wolf as just a savage beast.

This is about the most interesting book I have ever read! I started reading and I couldn't put it down! The pack of wolves takes you to daring moments when the pack mobs Lakota or quiet times when two wolves rest together. They are not the horrid creatures imagined in stories, but beautiful creatures that this book explains.

This book is awesome!! I have sponsored the pack for nine years now and never get tired of looking at the book. The photography is exceptional and for anyone who loves these majestic wolves they have to buy the book!!

My husband and I have been visiting Yellowstone nearly every winter and have been fascinated with the wolves and their recovery. We used to backpack in the Sawtooths, but at the time, never realized the wolves were being restored there as well. I am a retired psychologist and photographer. Dutcher's photos portray the very essence of the wolf in a way I that I really admire. I know what it takes in both time and equipment to get the photographs and capture the moments in such an intimate way. Both the book and the videos are not only fun to read and watch, they are truly remarkable in their entirety.

this is another book on the amazing work that Jim and Jami Dutcher did living with wolves. Everyone should read.

I am condeming the amazon review. It states that wolves have a culture that closely resembles that of humans. YAH, RIGHT! Good Lord! They are animals not people. They don't write books,
or plan for a wedding. They don't debate philosophy or politics. They don't wear clothing or study history. I was going to purchase the book until i read the ridiculous review. Now i will have to review it first via the library etc.... I have many books on wolves and have actually owned two shepard - wolf hybreds.
