Sawyer makes the only Low-Odor 100-Percent DEET on the market. We achieve this through extra refinement which results in a purer DEET. Our new low-odor, 100-Percent DEET insect repellent comes in a convenient 2 oz spray pump applicator for an easy-to-apply, even coating. Protects exposed skin areas against mosquitoes, chiggers, fleas, gnats and ticks. A little goes a long way so use as needed. There is little reason to use anything other than 100-Percent DEET. You can control dosage by using a smaller amount rather than a lower concentration. Lower concentrations have more alcohol, which increases absorption and causes more skin irritation.

PROS This worked great in Belize. We spent three nights in the Jungle without a single mosquito or bug bite of any kind. During this time we went on hikes thru the jungle and were in and on rivers as well as caves. The mosquitos were swarming around the other hikers. Several hikers' legs were covered in bites and swelled by the end of the trails. The only bites we got were on the plane ride home because we didn't have any bug spray on. Who knew there'd be mosquitos on the plane too. We also used SAWYER PREMIUM CLOTHING INSECT REPELLENT on our clothes which helped with any bugs that would land directly on your clothes or hat like ticks--kills them dead. awesome.

CONS The 100 deet does feel hot on your skin at first but that passes. I don't recommend it on your face (it'll make your lips numb--that can't be healthy:) Also don't apply it near woodwork or set the bottle on wood work because it takes the finish off the wood. Deet can be hazardous to your health especially prolonged exposure and on children.

But for a short period of time in extreme conditions to avoid more deadly parasites I think it was well worth it!! Malaria, Dengue fever, Filariasis, leishmaniasis, onchocerciasis (River blindness), and American trypanosomiasis (Chagas' disease) are all diseases carried by insects that also occur in Central America. Myiasis (botfly) is endemic in Central America and thats the last thing I wanted to bring home with me on vacation if I could help it. Thanks Sawyer.

Belize was beautiful and the most amazing vacation. The 100 Deet took the fear of disease off my mind.

I used this product while in Ghana Africa April 2009, and I guess it worked because no insects bothered me! Everyone else was complaining I did not have any problems from bugs!

I bought a bunch of these for a friend who volunteered this summer in Africa. Thought that near 100% Deet would be insanely strong for Central Texas but a necessity for Africa. But I kept one for myself and won't use any smelly, weak, overpriced store bought again. This is excellent because

1. Very little needed, just a little spritz and spread it around.

2. It works great.

3. It has so little smell you have to put it right up to your nose to smell it and I've had friends who couldn't smell it at all.

So much better than the Deep Woods, Cutter's , etc. and much more economical.
