The Sawyer Premium Insect Repellent contains 20% Picaridin, a promising new insecticide. The effectiveness of Picaridin is similar to DEET, but it won’t harm gear and equipment. The 20% Picaridin is a long lasting topical insect repellent that is effective up to 8 hours against mosquitoes, ticks, gnats, chiggers and fleas. It is also more effective at repelling biting flies than DEET. Sawyer's 20% Picaridin is virtually odorless; it has a mild citrus scent additive that quickly evaporates after applying.

The only reason I gave this four stars instead of five is that that it isn't absolutely perfect: a few flying pests still get in your face, but probably fall dead to the ground after a close enough encounter with your Picaridin shield. It's by far the best insect repellent I've used, non-greasy and long-lasting. Follow the directions closely to avoid getting any in your eyes. If you catch a whiff of this stuff you'll find it very disagreeable; though it doesn't smell bad, your olfactory senses will recoil at its obvious toxicity. Buy it.

I got this for my trip overseas where the travel clinic always gives a prescription for malaria. My doctor suggested that I get this instead of the DEET. I am glad I listened to her because this one does not smell at all like the ones with DEET. I also noticed that it does not only repel mosquitoes but other insects as well. I had some ripe fruits in my hotel room one day and I noticed some insects have been chasing my fruits. I sprayed around the bowl and noticed that the fruit insects started to leave me alone. If you don't like the smell of DEET like me, try this because this is so much more pleasant and it is also skin-friendly.

Picaridin is the only insect repellent to buy. It doesn't stink or stain and it isn't a neurotoxin like DEET. Unlike the herbal barbecue sauce this stuff actually works, and works for hours. The 20% repellent is good all day. The perfume they put in the Sawyer is a bit strong, but still better than DEET.
