With this new double DVD release, the legendary Saxon show why they've earned the reputation as one of the fiercest live bands in metal history. This very special presentation also contains a mountain of Saxon archival footage, both from the distant past and from recent recordings, and truly delves into the creative minds of true heavy metal legends. This is the definitive visual collection from Saxon. A must have!

saxon's two dvd release "to hell and back again" is billed as a movie but its more a documentary about the writing and recording of, and touring for, their superb "lion heart" cd. the feature is about an hour and a half long and while it was interesting to watch once, im not sure if i will watch it again. disc one contains the documentary feature as well as a live segment. the live segment consist of the many shows they did in support of lion heart spliced together to create a montage. i was not crazy about this particular effect because although you hear a live recording you do not know which show it was from. the scenes shift from outdoor shows to indoor shows from large venues to small ones. disc two features all of their recent videos including rock to stay alive with lemmy and other guest and a live rendition of judas priest you got another thing comin featuring female metal singer doro. there is also a full concert on here the "rocksound festival" which is, to me, the best thing about this dvd set. the band tares it up in this set but i found the audience to be a little on the tired side. biff thanks the crowd for staying around so long so it must have been one of those twenty hour shows with a thousand bands where saxon was one of the last bands to appear. i personally loathe these kind of shows. all the concert footage contains saxon's classic songs but i was kind of surprised they did not include more live material from the lion heart cd. the audio was great, nothing buried in the mix guitars drums bass vocals everything sounds ferocious. in conclusion, great band, great music, so-so dvd.

I own alot of music videos & I count this, as one of my all time favs, which I watch over & over, both for the brilliant concert tour footage of 2004-2005, which includes club & theater dates, to the massive Wacken Music festival, in front of 40,ooo; which can all be watched separately from the "To Hell & Back Again" (Movie) which features the recording of the incredible "LionHeart" record, in the wilds of Lincolnshire, England at GEM's Studio.
The actual movie is a real treat, as we get close & personal with the band through the recording process, the making of the albums videos, then out on the road. One gets a nice feel for their whole life experience (2004-2005) and that's all on DVD 1.
DVD 2 includes the video clips from the album, plus a particularly good allstar collaboration on, "I've Got To Rock (To Stay Alive) {song is from "The Inner Sanctum record}, featuring Lemmy, Angry Anderson & Andi Deris & a fun live vid with Saxon & Doro Pesch covering, "You Got Another Thing Comin'". DVD 2 also features live footage from the Rocksound festival & two cuts from Rock For Asia.
All in All, an extremely great look at one of the best Classic,British metal bands out there today. Saxon has now been going strong, since 1976 & show no sign of slowing down. I personally count their recent work: "Metalhead"(1999), "Killing Ground" (2001), "Lionheart" (2004), "The Inner Sanctum" (2007), "Into The Labyrinth" (2009) & "Call To Arms" (2011) as some of their best stuff & am glad they documented the strong Lionheart period here. Highly reommended to all hard rock & classic metal fans!!

I've been a fan for over 25 years and have owned this since it came out. I've pretty much worn it out. Great dvd. Looking forward to the next one.
