Saxon is good if you've learned it from the beginning...otherwise it's too hard.,
This review is from: Saxon Math 8/7 (Student Edition) (Hardcover)
My child learned with another math curriculum and then had Saxon Math in the 7th grade. It was VERY difficult and further ahead then she had learned so far in other Pre-Algebra books. So, if you're going to do the Saxon Math books, I suggest you start with the earlier grades and progress that way naturally. The transition of trying to jump in and learn Saxon for the first time when you're a 7th grader is way too hard.

Fantastic Curriculum!!!,
This review is from: Saxon Math 8/7 (Student Edition) (Hardcover)
Difficult to begin with, as we were compensating for years of public schooling. After two or three weeks, we covered most of the basic lack of competence and she is now progressing nicely. In an ideal world, we would have begun homeschooling from the beginning and there would not have been any "catch up". I cannot imagine her being confused about any concept taught in this text. Occasionally it is tedious in its repetitiveness, but it is very, very thorough. She is in sixth grade this year, but I am confident that she will begin Saxon Math Algebra 1 next year.

I am using this book for enrichment for some students that are ready for 7th grade math while in the sixth grade. It offers enough instruction and practice to serve my needs for them well.

Thanks for helping lighten my son's daily backpack load. I purchased this math textbook for our son to keep at home while leaving his school copy at school as his backpack was extremely heavy for a 10 year old to carry. The book was free of markings and the binding was solid.

Great book for student to check their daily homework themselves,

Useful solutions manual for textbook problems. Saves me time (as a parent); don't need to check my son's math homework every night... plus he does not cheat - he does his homework manually, THEN checks against this manual.
One caveat: I thought there would be practice tests (to prepare for periodic tests in school); can't find any help in this book yet. Recommended book - if the child is using Saxon 8/7 math book as their text in school.

Saxon Math is brilliant because it allows average students to master math. They review, review, and review by not assigning too many of the new assignment the first day, but keep reviewing each concept. Concepts are broken into small, manageable pieces that anyone can keep up with.It is difficult to know which book to start with if you are new to Saxon Math, so, I recommend you go to their website and have your student take the placement exam. It is extremely effective at placing the student in the correct book. Don't worry if the book seems lower than your student's abilities, their books move faster than many American Math programs. Make sure you purchase all three books for the level you are buying because all three are necessary. This is not the program for tutoring new concepts--if you are looking for a litte help in key concepts I recommend Khan Academy (http://www.khanacademy.org/). Mr. Khan is the best tutor. I also recommend Khan Academy for the student gifted in math. The reviewing of Saxon can be difficult for the quick learner and Khan academy is good at reviewing just enough and allows the student to progress at their own rate.

This book is definitely used, but we knew that purchasing it. It still has some life left and will come in very useful this year for my son. It's a heavy book, so I'm so glad we found it for him to keep at home and not have to carry back and forth to school.

We have had this product and used it for about 5 months. The solutions manual that can be purchased as well, shows all the steps and not only the answer. It is important to do all the 30 problems each day if you want the good results. The 3rd edition shows the lesson number that the problem comes from (very useful) - worth buying the 3rd edition. In case you were wondering, I am not a math major. Each lesson is short. Since we were new to Saxon, we chose Math 87 instead of Algebra 1/2, because it is the scenic route rather than the direct route to the same goal. The review is perfect and the student is finding it easy. Our previous curriculum did not review often enough. Each day, previous lessons are reviewed in the problems, however, the review is not boring because it gets increasingly more difficult and is not exactly the same everyday. In our previous curriculum, it was explained that the method was mastery and therefore not the spiral approach of boring review, however, this does not work because the student forgets what is not reviewed often enough. I cannot recommend this product highly enough. We have used various Math curriculums before and finally found something excellent.

This math textbook is same old same old book as other ones. I'm 14, so I use this textbook for math class and It's very easy. I'm very smart at math. And I need harder work. I wouldn't buy it. I need to go. See ya.

Book in better than advertised condition. Arrived in the stated time frame. Delivery was USPS, a big plus since I didn't have to wait and watch for a delivery service. I recommend this seller to anyone wanting a quality textbook in near new condition at competitive pricing.
