5.0 out of 5 stars Don't let the word "kit" fool you!, February 7, 2005

This math curriculum is wonderful, but the description here is not very helpful. It is called the "Math 3 Home Study Kit -- Teacher's Edition. The Home Study Kit includes the student workbooks and the teacher's manual. However, if you order this item, you will receive the Home Study Teacher's Edition (teacher's manual) only. This is not a kit -- but it is a great way to teach math to your third grader.

I love this curriculum. I'm using it again for my son. It has the number facts in a color combination that logically groups them, making them easier to memorize. This is priceless.

The teacher manual is straightforward and lays out plainly and completely. You will NOT be stressed and you will NOT be left wondering if you missed teaching something. The incremental (reviewed) practices leave no room for failure. Lessons are given in script format. The parent/teacher is given what to say. Step by step.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Program, December 17, 2006

You will need more than just book. You will also want the workbooks and other parts of the kit. This is just the Teacher's Edition.

Having said that, Saxon Math program is very good.

It does not work straight through covering one topic until it is completed and then introducing the next. In other words it does not teach all of the addition facts and then how to carry and then introduce subtraction etc. It works in a repetitive manner.

This means your child will continually going back to review what has been already covered. There are short verbal and written assessments to ensure that your child continues to maintain what has been learned. One negative is that if you do find your child misses a section there are no directions on what lessons to redo.

It does expect you to memorize math facts. There are many reasons to memorize math facts but there is very little explanation about why you might want to do this in the book. The facts are presented in a logical formation and they also provide help in learning to solve math facts; such as the doubles plus one rule.

For a homeschooler this is a great book. It provides a logical method of teaching math.

5.0 out of 5 stars Complete Teacher's Kit, need Student Book, August 18, 2010

This review is from: Saxon Math 3: An Incremental Development, Teacher's Edition (Spiral-bound)
You will need to purchase the student workbook, however, some of us are selling ours here as complete Teacher's kit including Teacher's Book, Meeting Book and Flash Cards..... However, after using course for two of my children I became tired of copying the worksheets so I just used the Student book up..... Under this ISBN # some of us have listed complete Teacher's Kit with Meeting Book and Flash Cards, you just have to scroll to page 3 and on to view them..... Loved the course and still using Saxon today, only at High school level now...
