5.0 out of 5 stars HOOKED ON SAXOPHONICS!
I've had this cd in my car since the first day it was released, and it hasn't left my cd player since I bought it. I am hooked on Saxophonics! What I love about this cd is that each song has its own unique melody...there are no song covers in this cd...they're all original. That's special in my book! "Sound of the Underground" has a very retro, yet techno...

1.0 out of 5 stars What happened to the magic, Dave?
Wow! I am a fan of Dave Koz, and have 4 of his albums. He is one of my favorite musicians because he writes or co-writes most of his material and his music is filled with emotion (mostly joy) and wonder.

This cd, however, seems mechanical as if Dave was just "fulfilling" his recording contract. For example, all of the songs in the "Act I" have...

I've had this cd in my car since the first day it was released, and it hasn't left my cd player since I bought it. I am hooked on Saxophonics! What I love about this cd is that each song has its own unique melody...there are no song covers in this cd...they're all original. That's special in my book! "Sound of the Underground" has a very retro, yet techno sound...I think that's very avant-garde thinking of Dave Koz and Chris Botti. The vocals to "Definition of Beautiful" was sang beautifully by Javier (a new artist I've never heard before until now). I could go on and on to say nice things about each of the songs. This cd is something you have to listen over and over again. Every time you listen to it...you hear something different that you didn't catch the first time. Each song is a new discovery! They're all well written and performed by the artists like Jeff Lorber, Chris Botti, Marc Antoine, Javier, Brian McKnight, Bobby Caldwell, et al. Check it out...you won't regret it! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Back With A Major Hit, October 9, 2003

This is by far one of the very best albums by Dave Koz. His depth and growth as a musician comes blasting forward. The tunes are thoughtful, passionate and exciting. He has reached down deep and pulled these songs from his inner being and us lucky listeners get the benefit through a delightful album. If you have never bought a Dave Koz CD, start here. If you have purchased one before, add this one to your collection. You won't be disappointed!

For example, all of the songs in the "Act I" have no discernable melody and sound like Dave is just playing random notes on the sax while canned "muzac" plays in the background. Most of the cd is sterile, unimaginative, and devoid of emotion, and sounds way too polished--as if the band phoned in their performances from distant locations.

Buy "The Dance" or "Off The Beaten Path", or either of his excellent holiday cds instead and experience the magic that is Dave.

4.0 out of 5 stars SAXOPHONIC....SASSY & SEXY !, March 30, 2005
This review is from: Saxophonic (Audio CD)
NOT HIS BEST WORK, BUT STILL A GOOD EFFORT. THE SONG "HONEY-DIPPED" IS AN O.K.OPENER -"LOVE CHANGES EVERYTHING" IS A SEXY TRACK WITH BACKGROUND VOCALS FROM BRIAN MCKNIGHT, VERY CATCHY. "ALL I SEE IS YOU" IS A GOOD LISTENER AS WELL. LET IT FREE" IS THE RADIO FRIENDLY TRACK THAT MOST SMOOTH JAZZ STATIONS PLAY. "ONLY TOMORROW KNOWS" IS PULSATING & SPINE TINGLING AT TIMES, WITH A SASSY WHISTLE BLOW -DIFFERENT FOR KOZ , YET WELCOMING & RECOMMENDED. "I BELIEVE" IS AMAZING- HAS THAT CALMDOWN/RELAX AFTER WORK EFFECT, THAT WE ALL NEED SOMETIMES, DON'T BE AFRAID TO ADD THIS TO YOUR MIX.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saxaphonic Is Fantastic!, October 17, 2003
This review is from: Saxophonic (Audio CD)
Just when you think Dave can't get any better he does!! I loved The Dance, but Saxaphonic is just so much better. Dave starts weaving a magic spell with Love Changes Everything and keeps on going with Undeniable and Definition of Beautiful. The other songs are also lovely with a lot of variety and great jazz. I truly think he put his heart and soul into this album and you won't be sorry for buying it.

If you're already a fan of Dave's you'll love this CD. If you're not yet a Koz fan, welcome to the wonderful world of Koz.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I would have expected ....., September 29, 2006
This review is from: Saxophonic (Audio CD)
All of dave koz previous cd's where great but when i heard this one it seems like most of the music is random sax playing just so he could fill up the cd " Honey Dipped" " All I see is you" and " One last Thing " are the songs that make the cd sell, the rest is just there so there could be more than 3 songs

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Below Contemporary Jazz Standards!!!!!!!!!, July 5, 2004
This review is from: Saxophonic (Audio CD)
As I opened up this cd, I though it might be a cool contemporary jazz package. With the first song, Honey Dipped, I was rather dissapointed, but it wasn't the worst song in the world. I just said, it had its good moments, let me go to the next track. Track after track, nothing got any better. In fact, they were very much worse then, Honey Dipped. Honey Dipped actually sounded good after the next tracks popped into my ears. The rest are just very bad "new age" music influenced with, jazz? The synthesizers and electric instruments, dont make it any better. Most of this cd is, an electronic drum beat over some saxophone playing. Bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars The man knows how to kick it, November 29, 2003
This review is from: Saxophonic (Audio CD)
I tend to lean towards the funky or at least upbeat smooth jazz, but every once in a while a slow calming song is nice... every once in a while.

Saxophonic is a good album, and Dave Koz is a very gifted musician, but i think he went a bit overboard on the slow stuff on this CD. although i really like "Just to be Next to You", that's about the only slow song on this album that i can stay awake through. "I Believe" is pretty good too...

As for the upbeat songs: WOW!!!
Honey-Dipped is one of the most "groovalicious" songs ever! you just can't resist rocking your head and tapping you foot to this one! "All I See Is You" scores #2 on my list of favorite songs on this album, with a nice little groove like Honey-Dipped. "Let It Free" is my third favorite song on this album. Nicely upbeat and lively, with a awesome chorus, this one's a hit! In my opinion, "Honey Dipped", "All I See Is You", and "Let It Free" alone are worth the money. If you are looking for something a little on the romantic side as well as funky, Saxophonic is the way to go! but i just like this album mostly for the funky stuff... Excellent work, Dave!
