A great film must be coupled with a great soundtrack. This is defenetly the case with Say Anything. This wonderful collection of 80's tunes contains great unknown tracks as well as famous ones.

All Say Anything fans will, of coarse, remember the romantic scene with John Cusack holding up a boombox, playing 'In Your Eyes' by Peter Gabriel. This classic track along with 'Cult Of Personality' by Living Colour, 'One Big Rush' by Joe Satriani and 'You Want It' by Cheap Trick are a few of the better know tracks that make this disc great. There's also a track by the Chili Peppers called 'Taste The Pain'. I hadn't heard of it but it's not bad.

The inclusion of wonderful unknown tracks, such as 'Within Your Reach' by The Replacements and 'Keeping The Dream Alive' by Freiheit, is the main reason why this soundtrack is superior to others. Finding unknown gems always make CDs more enjoyable.

With all this said, the Say Anything soundtrack is a decent tribute to great music of the 80s.

I remember thinking when this film came out that few things in life were as cool as Lloyd Dobler. This soundtrack is also one of those things. This album for me, as for many I'm sure, somewhat reflected my taste in music at the time, and even now actually. Of course the biggie here is "In Your Eyes" from Peter Gabriel. Who hasn't that track touched at some point? This also confirmed my love for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and here we get a slightly extended version of their classic "Taste The Pain". Toss on a few from Fishbone, Living Colour, and The Replacements and you solidify this soundtrack as a must own for the late 80's alt-rock lover. Not to mention the goods from Depeche Mode and Nancy Wilson (Heart). In fact the only thing that could've made this album any better, is if it ended with a "ding".

It's not hard to understand why folks enjoy watching movies - it's an escape to life's finer moments. It's probably harder to understand the attraction towards movie soundtracks, except that the music reminds us of these moments. And, when it's done well, with both a quality movie and quality soundtrack, as is the case with Say Anything, the results are noteworthy.

Say Anything wins over its listener, surprisingly, by connecting at various levels. The love song is found more than once, with Nancy Wilson's "All for Love" and Peter Gabriel's classic, "In Your Eyes" both avoiding the schmaltzy love song description. Rock and roll is always a nice touch for any soundtrack (especially one for a cool romantic comedy), and that's found here too, from guitar wizard Joe Satriani, who contributes "One Big Rush" and then up and coming funk/rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose "Taste the Pain" hints at a sound they would later polish even more in the 1990s. Other noteworthy songs include 80's mainstays the Replacements and their song, "Within Your Reach" as well as live versions of Depeche Mode's "Stripped" and Living Colour's "Cult of Personality".

In truth, Say Anything the movie is better than Say Anything the soundtrack. It's not essential listening like Say Anything the movie is essential viewing. But for those who get misty-eyed for 80's music or like to scour the used CD bins for unexpected treasures, this one's got your name on it...Enjoy.

Say Anything is a great movie because of the great Music it uses, and all of this music is excellent. The seattle music scene before it got hype is really well represented, and it gives the soundtrak a beleivable quirkiness...And "In Your Eyes" is one of the best Love songs ever. I highly reccomend it to anyone with good (and ecclectic) taste.

I actually bought this CD just for Freiheit's Keeping The Dream Alive because there are no longer any Freiheit albums at shops! This song somehow evokes nostalgia. The rest of the songs are ok and typical of the late 1980s. Certainly a lot more palatable than the modern junk and trashy lyrics of Britney Spears or boy bands.

...it is the soundtrack to high school. If you are a child of the eighties, you understand.
I dug the movie, the soundtrack is just as great.
If you ever wore neon socks, leg warmers or jelly shoes, or if you hated those who did, get this cd.

Great soundtrack album from the movie Say Anything, including hard to find solo track by Nancy Wilson of Heart. The soundtrack arrived in excellent time and packaging.

Bought this for my wife and it takes her back to the 80's. I guess that is a good thing.

When asked about great pop sdtks of the 80s, those from John Hughes' films such as "The Breakfast Club" & "Pretty in Pink," instantly come to mind. "Say Anything" however, managed to hit a home run without John's help. I remember recording this CD onto a cassette so I could play it on my Walkman while basking in the sun on a Lake Calhoun beach.

Aside from Peter Gabriel's chart-topping "In Your Eyes," what I liked best is the inclusion of lesser-known (at the time) artists. The Red Hot Chili Peppers' punk/funk/rock is mixed with obligatory decade-defining synthesizers in "Taste the Pain;" Living Colour's "Cult of Personality" is a timeless, all-out, hard-rock, head-banger; and The Replacements' "Within Your Reach," spread the 'Minneapolis Sound' beyond the Great Lakes.

Hands down, my favorite track is Fishbone's "Shakin' to the Beat," whose frenetic ska sounds like the B-52s on speed and is great for getting your ya ya's out. If it's your fav too, then you've got to check out Oingo Boingo w/frontman Danny Elfman (Tim Burton films sdtk composer, Simpsons...). Finally, Freihiet's "Keeping the Dream Alive," sounding like Paul McCartney backed by ELO, wraps up the collection nicely.

oingo Boingo: Only a Lad

I loved the movie and Lloyd Dobler was the quintessential anti-stud who was so charming, so sincere and so mature that he made my heart go pitter pat at his earnest love for 'what's-her-name' who wasn't worthy his devotion. The soundtrack has true gems on it, a mix of all the genres that were popular during the '80's. I don't hit the road without this CD in the car and have enjoyed several road trips while singing along to Cult of Personality, Taste the Pain and You Got It... And getting wistful over All for Love, In Your Eyes and Reach... This is just one of those albums where there isn't a dud on the track list. Sometimes a soundtrack becomes a dumping ground for obscure and forgettable songs by groups that evaporated before the song ended on the radio, but this isn't the case on this soundtrack.

You don't need to wait for a dare to be great opportunity, this is a no brainer! Get this soundtrack and enjoy!
