Editorial Reviews

Review

“The Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library shows young readers that books can be entertaining and educational at the same time. This is a wonderful series!”–Barbara Kiefer, Ph.D., Charlotte S. Huck Professor of Children’s Literature, Ohio State University

From the Inside Flap

The Cat and company travel by hot air balloon up and into various weather phenomena including rain, snow, thunder, tornadoes, and (yikes!) even hurricanes! Along the way they learn about thermometers, anemometers, wind vanes, cloud formations, humidity, fog, smog, weather folklore, and how to stay safe in lightning. Written and illustrated in Seussian style, this a great addition to the Cat in the Hat?s Learning Library!

I think this is one of the best of the books in Cat in the Hat's Learning Library. In this book, the rhymes are crisp and interesting. Some of the concepts introduced/covered include: meteorologists, weather maps, clouds, evaporation, condensation, snow, rain, thunder, lightning, tornadoes, and climatology. This book covers a lot in the simple and effective Cat in the Hat style.

This book is a great way to introduce your kids to some basic weather info and langauge. I would say it is for 3 1/2 and up -- nice rhyming with a famliar character.

This series probably counts as my toddler's first real science books, which is saying a lot for a very young person. This book is a hit, along with the one on butterflies. Recommended.

My five year old loves this book. He is fascinated with the weather and this book explains a lot. Highly recommend Dr. Seuss, especially the teaching series.

Good book but WAAAAAY above a 3 year old's head :). I have about 15 of these type of books and most of them are great even starting at 2 1/2 year old but my 3 year old had a hard time getting this. I'll just have to put it in the shelf for another year maybe.

We have many books in the Cat in the Hat/Dr Seuss series, and I have to say I am so impressed with the "Cat in the Hat" learning library of books. My daughter, who just turned 5, loves these books. I have always sought out books to foster her interest in science, but so many of them, even those designated for early learners, just give too much detailed information. This book is perfect! It provides the rhyming scheme that kids just love to listen to as their parents read, but it also provides tons of basic facts about the weather. Instead of giving immense details way beyond what a 4 year old can comprehend, it provides a basic summary of terms and concepts (weather forcasting, humidity, condensation, evaporation, formation of snowflakes, hurricanes, cloud names & descriptions, and more!) Please make more of these not only entertaining, but educational, and just the right amount of both for children of young ages! Thank you thank you!

We checked this book out from the library but will now be buying it. It's an excellent introduction to the weather for pre-school age children. My daughter is 4.5 and she is at the perfect age for this book. The rhyming is really good and makes the book easy to listen to for my daughter as well as fun to read for me. This book covers a lot of weather types and climates and explains it in easy to understand rhymes. There is also a glossary at the end. Highly recommend!

This book did not disappoint! We love The Learning Library, and this is just another awesome addition. My children are 4/2y/o, and they are so curious about the weather. This book explains the weather in the best way (very easy for my children to understand).
