5.0 out of 5 stars A male version of Billie Holiday..., August 30, 2004
Until discovering Al Bowlly I always wondered if there was a male singer from the 30's-40's period who sang with the purity of voice, and no-hold back style, like Billie Holiday. Al Bowlly is a male equivallent to Lady Day. His vocal style is simply charming, imageif Bing Crosby had been more jazz, and yet more subdued and honest in his vocal delivery. Bowlly is often backed by the hottest british dance bands of Roy Fox, Ray Noble and others. A classy jazz crooner, and a greta two cd indtroduction to his sweetest and hottest sides.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great songs and arrangements from the thirties, July 8, 2005
Al Bowlly is a sentimental favorite for the British as he sang with many of the best bands in the thirties and lost his life in the bombing of London. If you love music from the thirties, this is an excellent addition to your collection. Even the unfamiliar songs here will perk up your ears. Is he the British Bing Crosby? I don't think so. At times, he sounds nasal, reedy, and whiny. He is a "class B" singer but the bands that backed him are class A. Get this and enjoy.
