Swing, Swang, Swung, November 7, 2010
This review is from: Say It Plain (Audio CD)
Scotty Barnhardt, player, author, teacher, musician. Say it Plain is his latest small jazz offering. The Basie veteran and prof at Fla. State has taken the best of Armstrong storytelling, Wynton swing and technique and tossed into into a CD that is top of the class. As a fellow musician, there are so many little tricks of the trade that he offers up to tell the jazz language, and as a listener, I can hear a tale that resonates back to the 20's from the clubs of New Orleans to the halls of Lincoln Center where Mr. Marsalis holds court. SB holds his own.

Say It Plain Review, February 6, 2010

CD was shipped to me 110% as it was described. CD plays as it was brand noew, it doesn't skip on any song at all. This is bar far one of the best jazz albums I have ever heard. just because he is playing on a Monette doesn't mean anything because this guy can play. 5 stars.

Scotty Barnhart pulled out all the stops on this album! Being a huge fan of the Basie Band and Mr. Barharts
masterful and pleasant soloist to listen to, i greatly appreciate how much this album swings. From the "swang" of Pay me My Money, to the steady groove of
Con Alma, it is an understatement to say Scotty's tone compliments not only his creative melodies, but is intense, firey ideas he
tends to play. His solo's have such a soulful and heartfelt burning sweetness that you can't help but dance and tap your foot. Clark Terry's appearance is a must
to listen to, one can't help but laugh as he calls for is owed to him!!!
I highly recommend this cd for anyone who is trying to add some soul and love to their improvising ideas. This cd was well targeted to a market of music lovers
who can't help the fact that they (should i say we) have GREAT taste. Easy on the ears for a jazz album and anyone any age will fall for the beloved
Scotty Barnhart. Congrats Scotty!!!!
