3.0 out of 5 stars a little fast paced
my daughter loves signing videos and does like this one although I tend to think that it's a little fast paced. The repetition is very good and beneficial but the speed of the repetition is too fast. I also think the women that do the signs are a little annoying but it's probably due again to the pace of the video. Regardless, my daughter has found this video helpful...

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging DVD, January 28, 2005
This review is from: Say It With A Sign, Vol. 1 - Sign Language Video for Babies and Young Children (DVD)
My son is 10 months old and this video holds his attention and interest. The three signers do a wonderful job of demonstrating each sign while using expressive voices and faces. While practicing each sign, there are meaningful and interesting pictures, as well as children signing or demonstrating the word.

The signs are divided into categories like Food, Family, Animals, Hobbies, and Body Parts. This video offers the following words: Eat, Drink, Milk, More, Water, Apple, Banana, Cookie, Please, All Done, Thank You, Cat, Dog, Bird, Fish, Cow, Pig, Sheep, Monkey, Mother, Father, Blanket, Bottle, Book, Diaper, Play, Ball, Throw, My Turn, Sing, Dance, Eye, Ear, Nose, Hands, Feet, Bath, Sleep, Night-Night, Yes, No, Love, Kiss, and Bye-Bye.

We've only been using the video for a few weeks, so he is not signing yet. But he is definitely paying attention.

UPDATE: My son is now 16 months old and able to make about 11 signs. He still enjoys this video and is excited to show me his signs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Say It With A Sign, Vol. 1 & 2, March 17, 2006
A Kid's Review
Having these two DVDs has been a wonderful experience for our grand-daughter! We started playing the first vol. when she was 6 mo. and she's been watching the second Vol. for some time too. She claps when she first hears the music and watches them entirely. She has been signing the basics and when she first did 'butterfly' we all cheered! Now at almost one year she signs and tries to say the word as well and her parents are thrilled with her progress.
We all LOVE the videos.
Thanks,
Michael and Linda

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great video!, July 15, 2004

I am a big advocate of the "Say It With A Sign" video. My kids love it! Signing has made such a difference with my son and daughter (twins). Before they could say words, they could talk with us through sign and ask for food (including asking for more and telling us they were all done), drink, naps, diaper change, medicine and much much more! They also signed to each other - really cute. I think their ability to communicate really cut down on fits and other behavioral issues.

This video is a "must buy" for parents wanting to teach their children (and themselves) sign language. It uses a great deal of repetition but combines that with cartoon images, live video footage, and still pictures that reinforce the words in a fun and entertaining way. Another plus is that each time the word is signed it is spoken as well. I felt like this encouraged my children to verbalize the words as well as sign them. Another neat thing is that both adults and children demonstrate the signs. My kids love to watch and sign along with the children on the video.

All in all it is a fabulous way to start teaching young kids sign language we can't wait for the next videos to be ready and expand our vocabulary!

5.0 out of 5 stars Say It With a Sign Vol. 1, February 21, 2006
I heard about this video through a co-worker. She is related to the creator. I bought it for my son when he was about a year old. He is now 17 months old, and he uses 8 signs reguarly. His favorite is, "eat more cookie please!" The best part is, he LOVES watching the video. His face lights up every time it comes on, and he actually brings it to me when he wants to watch it. This is the only video (besides Baby Einstein) that he will watch. I also enjoy sitting with him and helping him sign. This is a great video for all children!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great, captivating video!, August 22, 2004
As a speech-language pathologist, I have introduced "baby signs" to my clients for years now. There's no simpler way for your baby to start communicating with you than to imitate the gestures he sees you do. And this video is a great place to start. It demonstrates signs for the everyday words you and your baby want to communicate about, using a repetitive yet engaging format. The babies and toddlers in the video are shown using the signs in everyday activites, and there's fun music and sound effects too!. My own son really enjoys the video and signs "more, please" for it constantly!

I highly recommend this video to anyone wanting their child to communicate with them quickly and effectively (and who wouldn't?). I'm looking forward to Volume 2!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Say It With A Sign, Vol. 1 - Sign Language Video for Babies and Young Children (DVD)
I bought this video recently for a second time. This time it was for a friend. This video changed my son's young life dramatically. He was having speech delays (2+ years old) that were effecting him so severely that he had become extremely frustrated (and so had I of course)and a specialist had even diagnosed him with autism. When we started watching this video together, it was like a light bulb went off in his head. I don't know if this is typical, but it sure did change our lives. I would recommend this video to any mom with young kids!

This review is from: Say It With A Sign, Vol. 1 - Sign Language Video for Babies and Young Children (DVD)
I am writing this review because I am amazed that anyone would have a negative thing to say about these videos. We have all 3 and they are cherished in our family. They are so simple to learn from. Such a simple organic video that really catches the attention of a baby. We feel partial to the ladies that teach the signing and make learning feel so easy and comfortable. My son learned from these videos right away and also loved them. We did not let him watch tv so he was so excited to watch these videos. He is 23 months old now and is actually watching volume 3 right now so I could go on the computer and search for the next step in videos. Doctors say how important it is for children to be bi-lingual and ASL counts. He hasn't watched any of these videos for months and I was told to increase his signing vocabulary...so we are back at it. He still knows ALL the signs that he learned from all 3 videos and I couldn't recommend these more. I just wish they continued on! After visiting their web site, I am going to purchase a few sets for moms that are about to give birth. Highly recommended!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this video, January 20, 2006
This review is from: Say It With A Sign, Vol. 1 - Sign Language Video for Babies and Young Children (DVD)
I was just online checking to see if Volume III was available yet. A friend told me about these sign language videos and how her children love them. Now, my six-month old granddaughter loves them. She watches them every day and responds to the sounds, colors, and pictures by kicking and trying to talk to the TV. I'm sure she will be signing soon. I will be getting Volume III as soon as it is available.

1.0 out of 5 stars Contradictions, December 5, 2005
This review is from: Say It With A Sign, Vol. 1 - Sign Language Video for Babies and Young Children (DVD)
I purchased this DVD to add it to the collection of other ASL baby DVDs but found that it would not play on my newer DVD player - had to pull the old unit out - and that 5 signs contradicted the ASL signs my baby had been learning in other videos. I returned the product.
