Avish Parashar is a great motivational speaker with a gift for writing. His positive attitude and outlook can be embraced by us all. In this, his latest book, he outlines was to embrace the positive "yes, and" way of thinking and living. It makes the answers to our questions always an affirmation.

This is a book which really needs to be read. The messages of affirmation are important and I feel that it has improved my own way of thinking and even my parenting style in addition to my professional life.

Cheers to the author!

Format: Paperback
One of the major rules of improv comedy, of which Avish Parashar is an expert, is that whatever your colleagues throw at you, you should say yes to it and develop it. Saying no stops the action. It's a little harder to see that "yes, but" is just a form of no, but in effect it is.

This book lays out the contrast between "yes, but" and "yes, and," and makes a quick case for the huge difference it makes in attitudinal and practical terms. It then proceeds to develop those insights in great depth and apply them to several areas of life.

An important idea for me out of this book is that we say "Yes, but" so much because it works, in the sense of getting some immediate result. We can miss the downside, though: it stops the scene, the action. It stops development. It stops progress. We say it because we've gotten some reinforcement from the immediate results, without ever seeing the long-term results that would have come from "yes, and."

Plus, "yes, but" is safe. It doesn't involve risk. On the other hand, "yes, and" is effective. Throughout the book, Avish shows how "yes, and" is more effective, especially in the long run, than "yes, but."

Also throughout the book, Avish is careful to point out that he is advocating neither mindless agreement, nor becoming a pushover, nor even avoiding "yes, but" altogether. "Yes, and" is a mindset, not a rule. The idea isn't to turn you into a clone of Jim Carrey in "Yes Man," but simply to remember to be open. (And, I would add, it enables you to genuinely and warmly say no when you need to, without beating around the bush.)

I definitely recommend reading this book more than once. Its deceptively simple approach has many nuggets of practical wisdom that you can mine over several readings.

Format: Paperback
Avish has written an excellent book with a seemingly simple core strategy; however, his engaging style of writing illustrates how this simple concept, reacting to external stimuli with the phrase "Yes, And...", can apply in almost any life situation, and change that situation's outcome for the better.

From leading a team, to being a better husband, to having better social interactions with friends, to reacting to unplanned dramas in life, Avish's central strategy provides a concrete method to improving the way you react to life; and shows how this method results in a happier, healthier, less-stressed, and ultimately, more successful person.

What I found interesting about this book were the sections where Avish demonstrated that using this mindset of "Yes, And" actually creates success momentums in areas that you use it in (your business, your health, your career). It's not just a "reactive" mindset, but can also be used to orient and drive your missions and goals.

I have used these strategies in my role as team lead at a video game studio, and the results have been impressive to say the least. Our team members feel more respected, feel listened to, feel as if they are contributing to the whole of the product.

I recommend this book wholeheartedly. It is well worth the price, and will really add a new dimension to the way you interact with the world.

First I have to tell you - I'm a business book junkie. I read 'em all. Big ones, little ones, famous ones, and hidden gems. All topics including sales, marketing, leadership, strategy, the how-to, the what-to, and the why-to kind.

And this books stands out.

Plain and simple, Avish Parashar packages essential wisdom, insights, and practical advice into a small concentrated form factor.

But don't be fooled - this is life-changing stuff.

One small turn in what you think and what you say CAN and WILL make a huge impact. Example after example pours out of this book and will soon spark ideas and memories in your own mind of times you took charge and created success - and other times when you chose the "Yes but" path and created your own obstacles, limits, and barriers.

Whether you are a business owner, corporate executive, sales professional, association executive, or non-profit leader, this book is for YOU. Filled with immediately actionable insights and concrete take-aways, this little book may trigger the biggest and best changes your team, your organization, and your results will ever experience.

Tell you what - STOP reading Amazon reviews of this great little book, say "YES AND I'll buy it right now." In fact, you may want to buy three - one for yourself, one for your boss, and one for the significant other in your life. Yes (and) the ideas in this book work as powerfully at home as they do at work!!
