As two college graduate parents, we have always planned and encouraged our son to go to college (he is just a middle schooler now). Much of the information in the book is familiar to us - pehaps because we have been there, and done that.
However, my much-younger sister did not go to college, and as a parent of two children (both now in high school) she is facing bureaucratic hurdles and apathetic guidance counselors.
The early chapters of this book are geared towards the parent's role in promoting higher education, and are wonderfully inspiring and informative for that task.
The later chapters help support parents as they research and push for opportunities for their children. The paperwork and misdirection from supposedly helpful advisors can be daunting, and ultimately damning for some parents, and their children.
This book gives advice and guidance on getting your child, and your child's school, involved in planning for the child's best future. The single-parent author tells her own personal accounts of getting her children proactively involved in surmounting the myriad of difficulties upon which any parent could be easily waylaid.
This book would be very helpful to those parents needing encouragement and ideas on how to build in a college-bound mindset with their young children.
To parents of older children, this book is useful in helping surmount the seemingly endless obstacles of getting your child through the high school years with the best possible foundation for college bound success.
As the author states, college graduates earn significantly more money than high school graduates (with rare exception). Every bit of advice and advantage we as parents can give our children is useful in helping them reach their greater potential.
