"Say You're Mine" by Judi McCoy was such an enjoyable read! I truly loved the character Declan O'Shea. He was an honorable man, as well as being kind and generous, hard working and loyal. Declan was a man from 1783 who, after being ship wrecked, has slept for 2 centuries until awakened by his destiny in the small town of Sunset, Florida. Liberty Grayson was a woman whose heart was wounded by a man she thought to spend the rest of her life with and was unwilling to easily allow another man into her heart and her life, or the life of her young son. Without warning and against all her best intentions, Libby falls in love with Declan even knowing that he's a drifter with a shadowy past who intends to leave the town once he's helped them with their 4th of July town fair.
The story of Libby and Declan's growing love is a wonderful, heart-warming story. The interaction between Declan and Libby's son, J.P., is also tender and touching.

"Uncle T" is another character who really adds a nice touch to the story and interaction. And don't forget the irrepresible Grandpa Jack - who loves his grand-daughter and great grandson with all his heart.

The story of Libby and Declan's growing love is a wonderful, heart-warming story. The interaction between Declan and Libby's son, J.P., is also tender and touching. I would recommend this story to anyone who loves a tender, love story. Judi McCoy delivers a sweet, wonderful story with a happy ending, and isn't that what you want from a good romance!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta love a Pirate, May 2, 2003

This review is from: Say You're Mine (Paperback)
What a fun book. This 21st century story of an old fashioned guy (like 200 year old!) and a once-burned-twice shy single mom is just plain fun to read. It has a humor, fun, a little mystery, a little magic and a whole lot of interesting characters to keep you moving through. I couldn't put it down once I started, so be forewarned that it's a page-turner. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Charming time-travel, August 31, 2005

Charleston, South Carolina -- 1783

Striding through the docks, Captain Declan O'Shae is stopped by an elderly gypsy woman who tells him he will soon meet his destiny. She then informs a stunned Declan that she knows he is on his way to the Florida Keys to retrieve his secretly buried treasure. Telling him his life depends on it, the gypsy makes him choose from an assortment of jewelry. Declan picks a golden medallion and soon forgets his encounter with the mysterious gypsy. A few days later, he watches as a wall of water twice the height of his ship heads their way. Moments later, Captain Declan O'Shae's world turns black.

Sunset Keys, Florida -- 2002

After years of living in the big city, accountant Libby Grayson has come home to Sunset Key with her young son. From the looks of her grandfather's books, she's barely made it back in time to save the family bar and grill. Taking advantage of an unusually low tide one night, Libby goes for a walk on the beach and discovers an entrance to a hidden cavern. Inside she finds a man asleep on a ledge. Knowing the tide will soon come in, she awakens the man only to have him mistake her for a prostitute looking for payment!

Their dubious first meeting sets the stage for the rest of the story. Declan is a man out of his own time but determined to make the most of his situation. Nothing is going to keep him from reclaiming his buried treasure, not time or his attraction to a certain infuriating woman. Libby Grayson is a woman torn between her duty to her family and friends and her fascination for this attractive rogue. As the pair walk the rocky road of romance, they also team up in an effort to save the town's economy.

Charming and tender, SAY YOU'RE MINE is an enjoyable tale. The cast of characters, from the leading protagonists down to the assorted townspeople, adds layers to the story while the legend of the buried treasure adds a touch of adventure.

Love love the PIRATES!!!

This is definitely one of the sweetest and whimsical stories I have read in a long time- the hero and heroine are well suited for eachother and it is wonderful and heartwarming to see how they come together. The relationship dynamics with the heroine's son are especially endearing in the overall scope of the tale.

Kudos to the author- buy this book, you WILL NOT be disappointed.

Heroine: buxom single mother

After suffering heartbreak at the hands of her son's father, Libby Grayson gives up a high-paying job in a New York accounting firm and moves back home to Florida to regain her equilibrium. Safe in her loving but dilapidated Sunset Key, Libby realizes that the townsfolk are barely staying in the black and sets out to save the village from financial ruin. But the situation is so bad, she'll need a miracle to pull it off!

Sea-faring Declan O'Shea has awakened with a headache in the wrong century, a fiery termagant of a woman standing over him, prodding him with a piece of driftwood. He accuses Libby of stealing his money, and she, having had her honor and integrity impugned, flounces off in a huff. Uncertain how or why he came to be in a cave 200 years in the future, Declan is determined to make the most of his lot. He'll find his long-buried treasure, buy himself a new boat, and return to his one true love: the open sea.

The bedraggled stranger worms his way into the confidence of the townsfolk of Sunset Key, taking on odd jobs to get by. He even comes up with a nearly foolproof plan to fix the town's money problems. But Libby's suspicions remain. This beach bum is no more trustworthy than her ex, and she'll do everything she can to prevent this man from hurting the people she loves.

Can Declan and Libby stop sparring with each other long enough to recognize the priceless treasure right in front of them?

What worked for me:

Declan was delicious! It didn't take me long to become smitten with this charming black Irish hunk.

Size-wise Libby came across as being on the fuller side of average. Weight didn't play much of a role in the book, with the exception of a reference here and there that Libby made about Declan not being able to carry her. (Of course, Declan managed it. Apparently either the hunks of yore were made of sturdier stuff than their counterparts of today, or modern women have a skewed concept of what "heavy" means.)

What didn't work for me:

The pacing was a little slower than I usually like. And I would have loved to have seen Declan struggle a bit more when trying to become acclimatized to the modern world.

Overall:

An enjoyable, steamy read. I will definitely be keeping any eye out for other titles by Ms. McCoy!

If you liked "Say You're Mine" you might also enjoy "Somewhere in Time", "A Love Through Time", or "Dear Cupid".

This review is from: Say You're Mine (Paperback)
I loved this book and I rarely read romance novels! It took me away to a place described in colorful, accurate detail by Ms. McCoy. The characterizations are wonderful, touching and funny and it's very easy to picture the characters and get into their story. The hero is charming and sexy with flaws that only make him more loveable. The relationships especially involving the son are heartwarming.
I highly recommend this book to anyone!

I agree this book is a great concept and I really enjoy all the cast and characters involved except for one. The Heroine or rather Libby. I understand she is bitter over her failed relationship and is now raising her sweet son on her own. But I found the extent to which she holds on to her bitterness really hard to take. I truly don't know how the hero, Declan holds his attraction to her when she is constantly undermining and berating him. At 3/4th through this book I had yet to see Libby's attitude evolve and show any level of growth towards understanding. I find her character extremely frustrating and that is why I can only give this book 3 stars... The romance is just too one sided...and Libby is too unforgiving.

Declan O'Shea has had his fill of privateering. The war for the colonies independence is over and he is on his way to claim treasure he buried earlier. On the way to his ship, he's given an amulet by a gypsy woman. Days later, his ship is wrecked in a hurrican off the Florida Keys. Only Declan survives to swim to a cave, climb a ledge and fall asleep.

Present day, Libby Grayson has come home with her five year old son to help her ailing grandfather save the family tavern. Left to care for her son by a man who never married her, she is reticent to the idea of love. She finds Declan in the cave and awakens him. He is shocked to learn he's slept away over 250 years of his life. But he is intrigued and strangely drawn to Libby.

Declan and Libby's son bond. Libby falls for Declan's story of sleeping through time. When a tropical storm strikes the keys, Declan has to make a choice between Libby and his treasure. He realizes she is what he has been searching for, not a strongbox full of gold and tells her so, finally giving in to fate.

This author NEVER lets me down. The book had me turning the page all the way to its heartfelt ending.
