Death is Mysterious,
By Mary Ann Sweet (msweet@tenet.edu) (Houston, Texas, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saying Goodbye (Mass Market Paperback)
Death is often a mysterious and frightening subject for children. Saying Goodbye provides a gentle introduction to the concept of death as a natural process. Difficult questions about death are answered in a way that children can accept and understand. Attention is directed to allaying fears and acknowledging the feelings experienced by children. This is a wonderful book for children who have recently experienced a death of someone they care about or as an introduction to death itself. Saying Goodbye is also available in an audio, video, and CD version. This book is a great addition to a child's or professional counselor's library.

Gentle understanding,
By Kay C Saunders (Sunnyside, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saying Goodbye (Mass Market Paperback)
This kind and compassionate book about dealing with the death of a loved one is intended for small children but I wouldn't hesitate to offer it to young people up to the age of twelve or so. Ideally a parent or other counselor would go through it along with a small child. The words are simple and clear and the illustrations are really great. The activities lead the individual from his or her feelings of loss to a place where they may be able to let go. Actually, the recommended activities would [and have, I think, at least in our library]helped adults as well as kids.
