More About the Author

Alex Blackwell is the founding editor of The BridgeMaker, an honestly written lifestyle blog dedicated to relying on faith, sharing the amazing power of love, and walking the simple paths to positive change.

The following message was written by Alex:

I am not an extraordinary person. I am not a doctor, a fitness guru, a psychologist, or a self-made millionaire. I am an ordinary man. And like most people, I have made mistakes in my life - mistakes that have cost me time and money, and mistakes that have damaged my relationships with my wife and children.

2003 was the darkest time of my life. After 17 years of marriage, Mary Beth had enough of my selfish ways and asked for a separation. She was worn down by trying to make me happy. No matter how hard she tried, I would tell her she didn't love me enough and I needed more.

Later in the summer of 2003, while separated from my wife, and emotionally and psychically distanced from my children, my life grew even darker - I was in emotional and spiritual decay.

Then a true miracle happened. In an effort to save my family, my marriage and myself, I attended a personal formation seminar, which focused on a very simple truth: You cannot change or heal what you do not acknowledge.

Several years after that life-changing experience, I started to blog as a way to share my journey to positive change with others. Later in 2008 I launched The BridgeMaker which has now drawn close to two million readers.

A former English teacher, I have written over 500 articles for The BridgeMaker and other publications including Zen Habits, PickTheBrain and Lifehacker. I also provide consulting services for bloggers and writers.

I live in Overland Park, Kansas with my wife of 27 years, Mary Beth. We have four children: Brandon, Caitlin, Andrew and Emily. When I'm not writing, I enjoy running, watching Kansas City Royals baseball games and spending time at the beach. 1.0 out of 5 stars Missing words, sentences, formatting problems! May 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
As others noted, there seems to be some special formatting used in the ebook which is not supported by the Kindle software. Entire lines of text are invisible, making the text appear incoherent.

Alex Blackwell's vulnerability and willingness to share deeply personal events are awe-inspiring. It's impossible not to find pieces of yourself reflected in the stories shared. Through his powerful writing, Blackwell shows you what's possible if you create change and most importantly, gentle ways to make that change happen.
